Anyone ever read 1984 by George Orwell? I wonder if Bitchin4.6 really exists. In the book the government had lotteries, and whenvever someone won, it was always someone no one knew. The government just invented the winners and kept the money for themselves. Do you really exist Bitchin4.6, errr BitchinRoushLightning?
Congradulations, Bitchin4.6, and welcome to F150online.

PS I once won a free carpet cleaning for one room at the state fair once. Forgot all about it, so I didn't have to pay taxes on it.
I forgot to ask, what kind of contest was that?

Congratulations! $5000.00 out to cover the taxes. $1500.00 out to cover the first 6 months insurance! Since you enter every contest I'm glad you won those prizes instead of a free dinner at Dennys.

You'll need to pay sales tax as well as IRS tax. Look out.

Congradulations!!!

But you can count on about 30% of the value for the IRS. (the value will probably bump you up to a higher tax bracket) So estimating the value at around 65k, That would make the taxes right around $19,500.

I know becuase I got a cash sum payment a few years ago and tried to prepare in advance for the situation, but still ended up owing the IRS about 11K. Ouch.

You could probably sell one of 'em (I know, perish the thought), pay the taxes, and still come out way ahead.

Yea, you'll probably have to pay sales tax and license when you pick them up. Then income tax later. Unfortunately, they'll use the full sticker price and not what you could have probably bought them for. But hey, everyone paid taxes on the money they used to buy their trucks, so a 'free' one or two sounds like a good deal!

Question

I'm kind of interested in the tax situation Bitchin4.6 experiences. Two people I know who have won cars have had to fill out the tax forms and pay the federal taxes BEFORE they were able to take the cars home.

One guy had to borrow from his parents to pay the taxes on a Jeep he had won.

I knew of some people here in Oklahoma who won an S-10 two years ago. Only had to pay excise when they tagged it. Your method of taxation will vary, state to state. I say enjoy.

Cool

I don't really know why but my B.S. detector is going off again. While I'd be delighted for anyone to win anything - there sure is a distinct lack of details here....
