Take out a student loan..? Seriously.. If you don't mind paying a loan back when you graduate, check out Chase Private Student Loans.. http://chaseprivateed.com/

You can take up to $40,000 a year..

Anywho.. I work at HEB in produce.. I only make $9.75/hr working about 16 hours a week.. I like my job though.. I only work weekends 5a-2pm.. sat/sun.. it leaves plenty of time to focus on college

i assume you go to one of the LoneStar colleges like me. go check out the campus police. they hire students for random things. i know a couple ppl that have worked for ours over here at Cy Fair. the text book stores are also good. they usually only hire students. im not sure if there is one at your campus but it might be something to look into

if you know anything about bikes you can be a bike builder

most give you a certain number of bikes you have to assemble a week so you just make your own hours

Waiting tables sucks (so I've heard) unless you are in a nicer establishment. In a high end place you can really rack up some cash. I worked for a jewelery company at the HQ delivering inventory, then I worked for the IT department at school. Working for school is the way to go if you can swing it. If you can't do that I'd say look for something that goes against the norm, makes for an interesting resume and normally pays and treats their employees better.

I guide quail hunts at a hunting preserve in statesboro georgia before or after my classes.it pays extremely well and you make some great connections with the rich old members you guide. I think its the best job, I get to go on hunts and work guide dogs and get payed for it. On top of all that, the tips are pretty great too haha

By the way 06yz250f, do you go to auburn? Because my buddy with a black f150 lariat with a fabtech 6 inch lift and 18" chrome XD rims thinks he has seen u around

Let see... jobs I had in college...

- Worked some weekends selling concessions at various shows the State Fairgrounds. We made commission and pulled $150-$200 a weekend, cash. Usually there were only 8-10 shows a semester. (3 years)

- Made pizzas at a local pizza shop, www.capitalcreations.com, usually worked evening hours. (something like $8/hr, 1½ years)

- Was a cook at a Mongolian stir-fry type place. After my paycheck bounced and I couldn't pay my bills that month (mailed the checks 2 days before my paycheck bounced) and they offered no help, I walked out of that place. Ended up suing them and getting 3x what they owed me plus reimbursement of $90 worth of overdraft fees, and I used the University Legal Services so I didn't have to pay anyone a dime! (around $7 /hr, 5 weeks)

- Did some 'landscaping' with a few friends. The business failed, but we made a $1000 each out of a few jobs. (1 summer)

- Worked at a go-kart place, ran the track and basic upkeep of the cars. It was decent, the owner would buy a case a beer and after close we'd sit around and finish it off. ($7/ hr, 1 summer)

- Worked for a construction company installing A/C into some of the dorms on campus. Me and my friend were the only white kids on the site, and only the supervisor spoke any english, broken as it was. ($10/hr, 1 summer)

- Sold tee-shirts at football games. We had the rights to a version of the NC State fight song, we'd make $5 profit selling a shirt for $10. Over the course of a few years we sold maybe 500 shirts. (3 or 4 seasons)

- I finished up college working with the NCDOT's rail division. I was an intern there and they were really flexible with my schedule. ($16/ hr, 2 years)

My advice would be to stay away from student loans as much as possible. I took out several loans, and now I'm paying for it. I'll be paying for it for about the next 10-12 years. I did have a hellava good time in college though!

Agreed. Your local True Value or ACE is the way to go. I worked at a True Value later turned ACE through HS and into college. I then worked there and at an office. Now I am just in an office.

Stay FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR away from student loans as much as possible. Yes, to a point they are needed, but the less you borrow the better. Be especially weary of student loans from banks and not dedicated student loan lenders.

When it comes to student loans in the students name, not the parents, you have 3 options.

Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan:

Set interest rate, no payments until 6 months after graduation or you leave school, interest that is accrued is paid by the government during your in school and 6 month grace period. The borrowing limits have gone up and change depending on whether you are a dependent or not.

Federal UNsubsidized Staffod Loan

Same as Subsidized, except the interest is not paid. You do have the option of paying the interest every quarter to prevent it from capitalizing. Also has limits.

When those are not enough and your parents can't do a PLUS loan or a FFELP loan, you then get into private loans. Most of your student lenders will also have private loans. Have to find the one best suited for you. Unless a bank is giving you the loan through a place like Nelnet, Sallie Mae, RI Student Loan, Granite State, etc ... you will be hosed.

Trust me, I worked for one of the largest Student loan companies for 8 years.

Maybe you need to just look into another part-time job. Last semester I had two part time jobs working about 40 hrs all together at both jobs and still maintained a 3.4 GPA taking 15 credit hours. I also had tuesdays and thursdays off from school and went from 9-12, 1-3 on MWF. One job I worked pretty much when I wanted. I worked everyday after school and 8-5 on tuesdays and thursdays at one job, then worked 5-9 at the other and 4-10 on friday and saturday, and most sundays. Granted my classes didn't have a lot of homework in them but i still managed to get it done. And I second the thought of staying away from student loans, you'll pay on them forever.

Student loans are the devil. And yes, they will allow you to borrow UP TO $40K a year, but the amount must be approved by the school first. Most schools have a pre-set limit that they will allow you to borrow up to, to keep the idiots from taking out $40K each year and buying a BMW.

06yz, when I'm at school I like to call myself an Independent Contractor. Basically odd jobs for people in town, one main guy in particular who is a land developer. I paint, drive tractors, fix equipment, etc. Pay is good (cash... no taxes) and you set your own schedule. I tried the restaurant thing for awhile.... It sucks. You're guaranteed to work Friday and Saturday nights... what fun is that?

If you college has sorority's, work as a houseboy, thats my current job. I work about 15 hours a week. I show up, cook food, eat food, wash dishes, and hit on hot girls, all while getting paid $8/hour. Seriously, its the life. The perks of the job are the best. Every friday and saturday I know where the best party is, I always get invited to the date parties, and in just about every class I have a hot girl to sit next to.
