I like the F150 better. Slightly better handling, much better dashboard and control placement. You feel like the truck is an extension of you, I don't get that in the Chevy. The Ford (5.4} is stronger for towing, not much, but noticeable. The Chevy (5.3) will light up the tires and beat my Ford in the 1/4 mile by one second. As I type this in my F150 is in the shop having the factory fix for the door cracks done. That and a bad door seal are only problems so far.The Ford is more a drivers machine than the Silverado. We've had a lot of trouble with the Chevy as of late, and I'm rapidly getting ticked off. The Chevy salesman told us when we bought it that the Chevy pickup line was the most dependable and reliable Full Size line of the big three. The truck has been in the dealer 11 times in the past 4 months for 11 different warr problems. The only option we didn't get was the heated tailgate and I could have used that option several times. Sorry, just venting. From my experience with this particular Chevy it's a wonder I haven't gone Postal yet.

Talking

We did the race at Orlando Speedworld side by side. She drove the Silverado 5.3L with a 3.42 LS axle and she weighs under 125 lbs. The F150 has a 5.4L with a 3.55 LS axle and I weigh 245 lbs (248 after downing 1 box Hostess Twinkies and a 32 ounce Pepsi). There was so much rubber on the staging area that neither of the trucks spun the tires. Put it in Drive and floor it. She beat me by 1 second and .9 sec in the two passes, I don't remember the times or speeds.

Psycho, I missed something in your sig. For these two runs, the Ford was chipped and the Chevy was not? Also did the Ford have the ARE Topper on it?

The reason I'm interested is that's probably the most realistic comparison I've read. In all these traffic light battles one reads here you never know what was under the other hood or what the other driver was trying to do. I had a guy think I was racing him and he thought he beat me and all I was trying to do was find a place to pee! But, I'm sure that if you went to his website all you would read about was how the Nissan beat the Ford and the look of anguish on the Ford driver's face afterwards.

"...and then after I stomped that Ford, the driver was looking all around all nervous like and I actually thought he was going to cry."

Cool

Speaking of traffic light racing, When I borrowed my dad's '77 F-150 with 351C and dual exhaust. I used to pretend as if I wanted to race with the guy next to me, I reved the engine a bit to let him know.

When the light turned green I watched the guys floor their cars or trucks while I turned to the right That was always funny, its even funnier when a cop is near by haha suckers!

I like to toy with the young peoples minds whom, in their civics or Turbo fireflys (haha turbo fireflys), think they can beat anyone with thier "super cars".

Red face

That was a good point, when we raced the superchip was not installed and the ARE cap was removed. I haven't raced since I had the chip installed because of the difference, I would have no trouble winning. The race was comparing stock trucks, no mods. The chip is an unfair advantage.

Hey Psycho, how about gas mileage? Do you notice the Chevy getting better gas mileage? The reason I ask is because a friend of mine has a 1999 Chevy 1500 Silverado w/5.3, extended cab, and 4x2. I have a 1998 F150 w/5.4, regular cab, short bed, and 4x4. I'm guessing our trucks are similar in weight and we were pulling similar size boats. We pulled to Everglades City and stopped for ice. To my surprise he had used less than 1/2 a tank while I had used nearly 3/4. I have a 25 gallon tank. What size tank does an extended cab Chevy have? Or does a Chevy's gauge fall later in the tank?

What gears are in both? A 1 second margin in 1/4 mile seems odd.

Fast, I don't think it's the gears. I think Psycho eats a bunch of Twinkies before he runs the Ford. If you should decide to take on one of those new 285hp Chevys, make sure the driver is snacking.

What is the Twinkie index on both trucks?

Hey Pnutfshn! Combined city/highway for the Chevy 18-19 For the F150 before and after chipping 16 mpg. My Chevy's fuel gauge moves slower from full to half then half to empty. Has your friend had any trouble with his Chevy, mine has given me no trouble for the first 3 months then the next 3 months 11 trips to Mr. Goodwrench.

Psycho, he hasn't told me of any problems but we don't usually talk trucks too much. The next time I see him I'll ask. I figured that Chevy's guage must fall faster in the second half because when we got back he said he was running on fumes and he started back with almost 3/4 according to the gauge.
