equivalent trucks
Am I getting this right?
Ranger = Nissan Frontier = Toyota Tacoma = Chevy S-10 = GMC Sonoma = Dodge Dakota
Dodge Dakota = Toyota Tundra = T-100
F-150 = GMC Sierra 1500 = Chevy Silverado 1500 = Dodge Ram 1500 = Toyota Tundra = T-100
F-150 7700 (F-250LD) = GMC Sierra 2500 = Chevy Silverado 2500
F-250 SD = Dodge Ram 2500
F-350 SD = Dodge Ram 3500 = GMC Sierra Classic 3500 = Chevy C/K 3500
I was just thinking which truck is supposed to compete with whom. It kinda seems like the Dakota, T-100 and Tundra lies on the gray area, Dakotas being competing on the mid-size and compacts, Tundras and T-100's on mid-size and full-size.

"Ford=Dodge" will draw a few comments
I used to own a T100. The cargo box and interior were "full size", if you don't consider the cargo depth. Mine had a 4 cylinder. It honestly got 600mi. on a tank of gas. 24 or 26 mpg.
Shouldn't be compared with the F-150. I think the magazines usually kept them separate. My F-150 is so much better made, too.

The way Ranger is priced you would think they are trying to compete with F150.
A V6 Ranger costs almost as much as a V6 F150.
Dakota, Tundra, T100 are priced like full size trucks but are compared to less expensive compact trucks.
Dakota is as expensive as Ram.
Years ago compact trucks were considerably cheaper than full size, but with the onslaught of ppl using compact trucks as personal vehicles thier price as gone up considerably.
A full size is only about $2000 (if that much) more than a compact.

The only one, in my opinion, that is even close..is the Tundra.

Geez I ask a question, I get, hmmm anything but answers. Without considering the price, which truck is a direct competitor to which truck. I am not really comparing, just wondering which truck are in the same "market category". Ford lovers love Fords, so its absolutely no use in getting unbiased opinions when asking about comparisons. Just so I am clear, the = does not mean that the said trucks are equal or implies that it is even comparable (who can compare with the gracefull lines of our Fords?), but that the said trucks are in direct competition with each other.

The Toyota T-100 was discontinued when they began making the Tundra. So all they have now are the Tacoma, which competes with the S-10, Ranger, Frontier, and Dakota. And the Tundra which competes with the F-150, Silverado, Sierra, and Ram.

Your original post is just about 100% correct.
Like wolvrin704 posted... the new Tundra IS considered to be in the same category as the F-150, Silverado and RAM. It is just a bit smaller..but it IS considered a full size truck.

I agree that the Tacoma is not as well made...but it IS in the same category.
The crash test for it WAS pathetic. Some of the others in that category were not much better.

You can't compare the Toyota Tacoma to the Ranger, Dakota, or S-10. The domestics have a thicker frame and body sheet metal and are bigger. The Tacoma is tiny compared to the others. The Tacoma also has the worst crash test ratings of all trucks, by far. I believe you would be safer in a shopping cart.
