Post speedo readings

Where does the speedo get its data? I am thinking it would be in the front wheel since it won't be affected by the rear ratio and rear wheel spins. The only effect would be tire size and skids. But that is only my hypothesis. I am thinking of changing to 3.73 gears and still have correct speedo readings (I don't want to do math while traveling at hwy speeds and still be awake).

The speedo gets in info from the vss (vehicle speed sensor) it is located on the tail shaft of trans . you will have to get a differant gear but since ford offered a 3.73 gear stock it should' nt be a problem there are several members here who have made the swap. there was a post not to long ago about switching speedo gears. Com'on guys who did they swap??
