Just to remove any doubt, a truck is still an AUTOMOBILE. The law still applies.

FORDYFOUR: The dealership is just outside of New Orleans, on the Mississippi side... I don't know much about this state, except that it looks best in my REAR VIEW MIRROR!
(Can ya tell I HATE it here??)

Claudia, I have a good friend that lives in LOSE-ANNA, where he lives, truck stickers wouldn't ever rate nothing, good hard working people, but don't mess with them.
The difference between LA and Ca is day and night.

Claudia,

Every vehicle sold on a dealer's lot (even used ones) will have a stock number assigned to it that is cross referenced to the VIN. The dealer keeps a book (at a minimum) of all these vehicles, most have it in a database. And, most dealerships have the capability of printing their own window stickers. I would locate the VIN and Stock number (this should be on your sales contract), and ask the General Manager one more time to provide you with a window sticker. If he again refuses, ask for the name and number to the Regional Customer Service Representitive and tell him the next call after that will be the State's Attorney General's office to file a formal complaint against his dealership! It's called truth in advertising, and the Attorney General would love to hear about this slime bucket! Especially after you tell them the reason you requested the sticker is because you suspect he's ripping you off, and then coming up with some lame excuse to cover up his criminal activity! And, I do mean criminal activity! If he's removing standard equipment from new vehicles, and then selling them to prospective customers at pure profit for him, it's fraud! Expose them! Go to the media, newspaper, TV, they love this stuff! My guess is you'll get a window sticker way before it gets that far! In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the Regional Customer Service Rep won't be able to resolve it for you! Keep us posted!

<sigh> I finally got so disgusted, I called the dealership in MS that my local dealer "traded" with. I spoke to one of THEIR gnl mgrs, and he said to expect a window sticker to arrive at my DOOR in about 5 days. NOW THAT'S SERVICE! And once I have that puppy, I'm writing a hot little letter to SOMEONE about the dealer I got the truck from.

Claudia:

Just got on to this thread.
I believe that any Ford dealer, anywhere, can access the information you need by doing as someone else suggested, punching up the VIN in their search program and printing out a reasonable facsimile of the Monroney Label.
That's how they do dealer trades, and the only way they can find out what is out there and what it retails for. When I purchased a '96 Taurus SHO, that is exactly what the dealer here did for me, and somewhere, I have 3-4 Monroney Labels for cars with various levels of equipment. They ain't as pretty as the originals, but you just want the hard information anyway, not a poster.

BTW, how did you end up in LA and how come you can't go back to CA?

Bill

Bill, CPhillip: I was smart enough to get out in 94, (90-94) but hubby retires next summer. Boy, time is at a catch 22 now. Too fast for him to retire, but too slow to be stuck here!! LOL

Hi Claudia, as for the sticker on every new car on the lot is called "the Monroney" after Oklahoma's Democratic Senator A.S. "Mike" Monroney, the lawmaker who sponsored the 1959 bill that mandated its presence. Monroney federal law requires that label to include the make, model, and identification number of the vehicle: its suggested retail price and the retail price of all factory-installed options not included in the base price; and the amount charged to the dealer for delivery to his store. It's a federal crime to remove or alter that sticker before the vehicle is ultimately delivered to the purchaser. This effectively prevents car stores from replacing the original with a higher-priced sticker if a manufacturer raises the price on subsequent shipments of the same vehicle.
Unfortunately, there's a gaping loophole in the law: It doesn't apply to pickup trucks. In the vast majority of cases, you will find the Monroney label on pickup trucks, but you may find that some dealers replace them with new altered ones....increasing prices. Also as you found out, taking them off all together. My suggestion, is to find a reputable dealership somewhere else....you shouldn't have a problem. It sounds to me that this dealerships a little shifty! I learned this information studying before I purchased my truck. The book I read was CAR BUYERS and Leasers Negotiating Bible. Also, a great site to receive information is at www.fightingchance.com.

Good Luck....
