What is THIS thing under the dash for?

What is THIS thing under the dash for?
Hello, on the drivers side, below the steering column, kinda off to the right, there is a "computer chip receptacle" looking thing, kinda like where you would put a "Pro-lock key" into. My manual doesn't mention anything about what it's for. Any ideas/info???

It's where Ford service people plug in their diagnostics computer to retrieve codes.

Claudia, you know you ain't supposed to be lookin up under that dash! I bet if you ever went to Scotland, as soon as you got back we'd all be reading about what's up under a kilt.

Add-ons: Older Windstar driver's side wiper blade (with the air scoop, because I don't slow down when it rains), back-up beeper, "f150online.com" sticker and snazzy Tweetie Bird floor mats.
My third F-series: '73 F-100, '98 F-150 and '00 F-150. Great trucks!
