Police dogs are awesome!

Notice the suspect behind the car, apparently firing a gun (you see the smoke from the muzzle) and a split second later the shepherd police dog acts

You have to watch this a few times to appreciate it.

Nice vid. I think it might be a training exercise though. Or that guy is just wearing a really, really thick armed jacket.

It appears from the video the dog was already on the attact -running towards the suspect. I don't think the gun fire triggered him.

Deffinately cool. But its a training video. Notice the extremely thick coat and how he sticks his arm out for the dog to grab when it gets close.

I always thought they would wear both the jacket and the pants during training. This guy looks like he has a thick jacket but the pants seem standard.

If that's a training video, how bad would it suck to be the one getting to play the suspect?

Shepard teeth to the face during the "training exercise" would have really sucked.

Heh. My cat fetches small cat toy *****. Throw a ball for the dogs and they just look at you like you're nuts. Like why did you just throw my ball all the way over there?

Check these out
That is my buddies kennel that I used to work at. A lot of the time we wore only the jacket. Most dogs that are "police" trained will go for the arms/shoulder. A few dogs we had to use the pants and jacket because they were trained to attack the legs too. Some dogs such as the Malinois breed naturally go for the thigh/groin region whereas German shepherds tend to naturally go for the arm/shoulder area. Being a "decoy" is pretty fun.

My favorite stud dog at the kennel: V Vanesko vom Salztalblick

I was the first person to decoy for him when he was imported from Germany. He weighs about 120lbs and is a frickin BEAST. When he is latched onto your arm, you can fire a handgun and he won't even flinch.

So bringing a squeaky toy to a robbery wouldn't help my chances???

Just kidding......those are amazing dogs. A friend of mine has one over in Iraq. My brother is a cop and he used to take care of one of the dogs in his office. This dept wouldn't let a dog go home with an officer unless it was officially assigned to them so I'd watch him train/play with him at the kennel. It's funny to watch how playful they really are but scary to know one command and this thing will rip you to shreads.
