How I Screwed Ford!
Two months ago, I got the go ahead from my boss to order a '00 F150. Nothing special, just a reg. cab work truck. I was told it would take no more than 6 weeks and was later given the VIN of the new truck.
By about the 4th week I started to check in frequently to see if it was in, but the dealer kept telling me that it was still in transit. Well yesterday I stopped in again and of course got the same answer, it's on its way.
On my way out of the showroom, I slowed to look at a 2000 Lariat sitting pretty in the shwroom. It was a beauty, wedgewood blue, with ALL toys. I just happen to check out the VIN # on the dealers inventory sticker when it hit me. This was my truck!
Somehow someone had screwed up bigtime. I brought this to the salesmans attention and he agreed that the for some unknown reason this Lariat had the VIN that I was issued.
Well, a contract is a contract and seeing as my invoice showed that VIN # that meant that I was entitled to that truck!
After suprisingly very little pressure, the dealer manager agreed. I was going to get the LOADED Lariat for the price of the work special. I told my boss about the scew up and he told me that I could buy that truck if I wanted and he would just order another w/t again as that is what he needs.
Now I am the proud new owner of this beast, with EVERY factory option on it.
While I was not in the market for a new truck till maybe next year when I planned on getting my wife one, this was too good to pass up. The Lariat had a sticker price of over $43 000 (CDN of course) and I got for $21 k. WHAT A DEAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE hearing stories like this. I just wish it could have happened to "Covert Ford" in Austin Tx. !

Why can't that type of thing happen to me? I paid $6000 more than that for the same truck.

My wife drives the new one,what else.
What she has really wanted for a looong time is the exact truck you've got though and I agree. We were talking about trading in the '00 for the exact smae truck you've got, but probably a V10. Our really short trips would kill a diesel.

notirT: is that the heavy half or 7700lb pkg because i have the same truck and ford no longer offered a 3.73 gear in 2000 99 was the last year 3.55 is all they offer'd for 2000.

Your right Steve g, I ordered mine in July 99 and it was just about as easy as pulling teeth, no updates on 00, no increases on price, no nothing.
I was never given any info on a 7700# Lariat, if so I would have gotten it, for the 4R100 tranny, instead of this "beefed up car tranny".
When was the 7700# made available to order?

The 3.73 gears are part of the off road package, available only with the 5.4
