How Much Time did You Spend at the Dealer?
When you bought your F150 how long did it take you from the time you pulled up to the time you drove home?
Add times if you made multiple trips.
I was lucky on this one, shortest time EVER for me.
I drove up, test drove 3 trucks, signed paperwork and was out of there in 45mins.
I flat out couldn't belive it.
They even handled the financing and called my insurance comapany for me.
He even told me "Any turck you want $50.00 over invoice" over the phone so no negotiations were required.
I know he got holdback $$ and kickbacks from Ford, but his price was the cheapest of the 3 dealers in town.
The only thing that I wasn't happy about was "The Computer Automaticaly" added the ESP.
I told them I didn't want it and they took it off no questions asked.
I am a little ticked I've had to have it to the dealer for warranty work in the first 6,000 miles of ownership, but even thought the dealer took longer to fix it than I would have expected, it was fixed it right the first time both times.

It was the fastest for me ever when I bought a brand new vehicle. when I bought this truck it took about 90 minutes from the time I pulled onto the dealers lot till I was on my way with my truck. I test drove 2 trucks a 99 supercab with the 5.4 and well the other one witch I bought the longest part of the wait was waiting for the guy who preped the truck to get done.

I can't remember if it was 3 months or maybe 4 months. For 2 months, I test drove everything in the F250-350 class. All of them!! Then I ordered and it took another 2 months for my truck to get built and sent to me. OK, 4 months it is. Somewhere along the line, we managed to get the paperwork done.

It took me around 2.5 hours..only because the steering wheel on the new truck had a small hole in it and they changed it out with a leather one....(they asked if I minded the matching leather since they did not have any of the regular ones).
Other than that..the process went very fast.

I ordered mine sight unseen, no test drives, etc.
Called the dealer (5 minutes)
Called me back (5 minutes)
Shopped around (a few weeks-nobody would beat it)
Drove down and spoke to dealer in person (40 minutes in the dealership)
Drove back down the day I took delivery (another 40 minutes)
About 90 minutes total with the dealer from whom I purchased, no BS about extended warranties, Scotchgard, undercoating, etc. It'll probably never be that easy again.

I spent HOURS with dealers that SWORE their truck was different than the other 55 F150's ford sent down the line that hour...
Then I found a salesman that KNEW I was gonna buy one....very little time...and lowest price.. 45 minutes, maybee...then delivery took an hour..while he forced me to watch him cover all the features. I guess that's great for most people, but I knew what I had bought. i wanted OUTTA THERE!

My buying experiences for my first Ford pickup along with my son's new F150 were quite pleasant. Believe me I am not a novice when it comes to buying new vehicles.
We both averaged about 90 minutes each for a new order/price. The key here is to know exactly what you want which we both did and don't waste the saleman's time.
After looking at the new Ford style for two years the time arrived for new '99s. Believe me you have to know that you really want a truck if you never owned one before. It's a serious change for those like me. Those who have owned trucks for years may find buying a new one easier but it was a big change for me.
The Internet provided all the information we needed regarding price, options and dealer cost and we both paid about $250-$450 over dealer cost. This saved a lot of time and prepared us well. Remember there is only so much the dealer will go on a new F150. They sell like hotcakes and if you don't buy at their price someone else will.
There was no "hide the numbers, bait-and-switch" or any games being played with us. When the vehicles arrived we were each in and out in 90 minutes and this involved mostly the "paperwork."
So, in essence the total time to
1: order/establish price - 90 minutes
2: pick it up and drive home: 90 minutes
was totally acceptable.
To me it was not worth the time to run around to other dealers all over the county to save another $50 to $100 on the final price if that was even posible. My time is more valuable to me than spending a whole day Saturday to do this. We were satisfied with our projected prices both times.
By the way, our salesman was the best we ever dealt with. We both had apprehensions of getting a "hassle" but it never happened, either before or after the sale. I actually thanked him for being candid and above board with us on our purchases and he simply said "It works for me." A rare example of a car salesman today.

At the dealer I bought my truck from, it took me about 45 minutes.
The thing that realy ripped me, was the 3 other dealers I went to. Only one of the 3 even called me back after I test drove a truck, and gave them my information.
How do these dealers stay in business if they don't even follow up on potential customers.

I dealt with a fleet sales person and price was set at $300 over invoice - no negotiating, no high pressure pitch on ESP. The figures I pulled off the internet matched excactly with the dealers numbers. Took about 45 minutes picking out what I wanted and driving it.
Then it took about 1.5 hours for them to change tailgates - the truck I wanted had a ding, and the mechanic had a hard time swapping one off another truck on the lot (the locking mechanism had to be changed).

I've been specific when dealing with dealers, too, Dunbarton. I've had all of my info ready when I called and came right out and said, "The pickup has to be EXACTLY like this, and I'd like to order it." The salesmen always answer with, "I've got exactly what you want," and proceed to try and sell something totally different. My experience has been, smaller dealers are more accomodating as far as ordering, since their inventory is smaller, and larger dealers want to move their current inventory before they're willing to get involved in ordering anything extra.
I was driving along on a Saturday and discovered about the 10th thing I'd have to fix on my Vette (ALL expensive items no less), so I drove through the car wash and drove to the dealer. I dealt with a very professional lady in fleet sales and I said "Here's my trade, here's the truck I want, this is what I wanna pay per month. If you can make it happen, I'll drive it home NOW." They had to play with numbers a bit, because Vettes are NOT worth as much as people think they are. It took about 35 minutes from the minute I walked in to the time I left, and I was very pleased with the deal and the way I was treated. I did have to go back a few days later and spend about 15 minutes signing paperwork, but that was no big deal. I don't think I ever bought a vehicle so quickly or painlessly

I was at the dealer for over 4 hours when I bought my truck. From previous visits, I had already decided which one I wanted, so all that time was for negotiation. Before I walked into the office, I knew how much I was going to pay. It took over 4 hours for them to agree to sell at that price. It was not a pleasant experiance.
