What Is The Closest You've Ever Been To Dieing?
driving a 84 lebaron down a snow covered road ( downhill ) and flat lost control of the car..spun in circles in front of a pickup coming the other way ended in a ditch about 2 feet from a utility pole .....
driving a 82 chevette took a headon with a pickup at about 25 miles an hour..didnt walk away but lived to tell about ( thank god i am a big guy)..couldnt go thru windshield because i was trapped by steering wheel and dashboard ( took three inch section of dash thru my right knee )

Boardman: I found your stories the scariest. Don't know if your life is charmed to get out of those scrapes, or hex'ed to get into them in the first place. Glad you still with us, though.
Think about writing your autobiography when you get old (if you get old). They'd probably turn it into a movie.

18 yrs old, partially opened parachute, stuck in the mud up to my knees, lots of fractures.
woody wagon blows a stop sign, hit it broadside on my triumph bonny chopper, go over the roof, land on my helmet (it split in two) and proceed to accelerate up the I-10 merge ramp on my ***.
para/sailing, kid driving boat lets out so much rope, i can barely see the boat, i am so high up. the chute trails behind you and the only thing that keeps you up is the forward motion of the boat. well, suddenly i start to fall like a rock, the boat killed, and i see the guy waving his arms telling me to try to keep myself suspended in the clouds somehow. before i could think, i hit the water at machII, i went so deep, it got dark. i start swimming up when someone starts pulling frantically on the parachute ropes, wrapping me up like a shrimp in a scoop net. when they finally pried my hands from the "drivers" neck, he was able tell me, "when i get the boat fixed, your next ride is free!"

In another life I was a traveling salesman (no I don't know any jokes). Late one night (early next morn)I was headed home after a busy day. '79 Cougar, twisty road, middle of nowhere, cruse ON, Tape on with jazz 97 decibals. Into big curve watching headlights on guardrails. Suddenly a car starts out of a side road OH NO!! - Look to left lane (2 laner) 18 wheeler coming - Slam on binders and begin to look to Pass. side floor boards. Just as my head is going down, I see car reversing, brace for crash, watch headlights in other vehicle go by my side door. binders on full lock, Cougar remains straight down the road. Finally stops by 18 wheeler door, the driver says "Man I thought you was dead". Some where there is a '79 Cougar with brown spots on the drivers seat.

I allmost got killed tonight. I was heading home from my friends house after watching the football games. There was about a inch of fresh snow on the ground. A new Chevy Silverado blew right through a stop sign right infront of me. I was only doing about 30 mph. All I had time to do was turn to the right, I nicked the curb, but missed the Chevy by a inch or two.
What do you think I would have done to him if I hit him at 30 mph on his drivers door. Because if I hadn't swerved thats where I would have hit him.

Just stumbled across this thread today.
1st close call was at 13yrs old. I was a Sea Cadet training on a tug boat in British Columbia. I was standing "at ease" along the gard rail as the tug was docking. The bow line was thrown and secured then the Spring line was done. This line runs from the bow cleats of the tug to the dock near the stern. The forward momentun of the tug stretches this line and helps bring the stern closer to the dock. Well the stern line was thrown but it was not caught. meantime the tug continued forward and finally ripped the cleat from the dock and it hit me right between the legs. If I had been standing 2 ft to the left I would have got it in the head. I am now the father of 3 boys so yes I am OK.
The 2nd time was when I was 18. I was riding my motorcycle in town at about 75mph. I tried taking a bend in the road but missed and ended up hitting a 6x6 porch pillar with my head. I felt myself leave my body and I could see it from a distance, then in an instant I was back and frantically trying to kick start my bike. It wouldn't start after hitting the house.
To this date I have a great respect for what can happen on a bike.
Kindest regards

2/19/1989, day I proposed to my wife. We were driving north from Baltimore on US 40 in Maryland around 10pm. I was driving my 87 Ranger SC 2.9L doing about 65mph. There were a lot of dark back raods that crossed 40 with no lights. One guy comes barreling across the intersection, running the stop sign. I could see the reflection of my grille in his driver side windows. I figured my front bumper missed his by inches.
I guess we were and are having a long marriage after that. That area is all buit up now, plenty of lights (red ones).

I traded my '79 F-150 for a 80 z-28 (what was I thinking???) A month or so later I was doing about 60 when someone in a Dodge power wagon ran a red light. I had the T-tops off and windows rolled down. BUT HAD MY SEATBELT ON!!! I think the seatbelt saved me from getting thrown from the car and getting injured or possibly killed. The car was hit in the passengers door and spun me around 4 times. Twisted like a pretzel. The passenger window (which was rolled down!) was all around me, and the passenger rearview mirror was in my lap. I couldn't drive through an intersection for a while after that.
Apparantly it knocked some sense into me 'cause I went out and got a 78 F-150.

Well, in 92 I had the BIG ONE that everyone is statistically supposed to have in their lifetime. Two of my friends and I borrowed another friends 6 month old 92 Ranger to go to Pensacola and purchase some shrimp for a birthday party (can't haul those stinking things in a car!) We were slowing down for a red light at about 35 mph when we heard tires squealing. We just thought that someone was jamming on brakes at the light. For a split second, I caught a glimpse of a white Mustang. It was coming straight at us from across 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC! I consider myself to have a very good reaction time and always thought that if I was ever in that situation that I could react in time to avoid. NOT!!! He hit us head on and stopped us in our tracks from 35 mph. The trooper estimated that he was going 70 mph (in a 35 mph zone)when he hit us. He was thrown completely out through the top of his convertable Mustang and landed in front of out truck. If he had not stopped us we would have run over him. None of us had seatbelts on! The drivers side front corner of the Ranger was under the driverside windshield and the engine was inches from entering the cab. I came out best of the bunch and my side took the worst hit. My friend in the passenger seat went through the windshield and took about 70 stitches to re-attach his forehead to his scalp. The friend in the middle took out the rearview mirror and dash. I took out the steering colum and hit the roof. Major whiplash that still bothers and a concussion with slight memory loss.....uh...forgot what I was going to say...Oh yeah, the medical personel were suprised that we lived through it and amazed at our relative lack of injury compared to the severity of the accident. The lord was looking out for us that day. And yes, I wear my seatbelt frequently now because I found out that it CAN happen to me.
