seacrow...

Well..it is fixed! I finally broke down and towed it to the dealer. They hooked it up and ran a computer and voltage check. It was a bad DISTRIBUTOR! It was getting voltage from the coil..but nothing was going to the plugs from the distributor. $199.00 for the part (and lifetime warranty..Mazda wanted $320.00 ) and $113.00 for the diagnostic and labor.

Evidently..the distributor is a weak link in the reliability of the Mazda 626. It is a known problem...news to me.

Thanks to everyone who offered assistance!

Cool

Dustoff,
I work for a mazda dealer, the distributor would be my second guess after a dirty BAC valve.
I have a phone number for a Mazda only salvage yard, good people, good prices, good used parts. E-mail me if you want it.

Thanks for the offer 98sleeper! I took the BAC off and it was in perfect working order..as far as very little crud in it (still cleaned it with a biodegradable cleaner). That did not help. The Mazda guys also said the same thing. With the new distributor that I bought and gave them...it now runs like a champ!

"The cost to repair the Bypass Air Control Valve is estimated * at $565.00 for parts and $65.00 for labor" from carpoint.msn.com

I'll save your e-mail address for possible future use!
