3Wheels or 2......4X4
Hi.. I have a 2000SC 4X4, 3.55 regular axle, and i'm wondering when i shift it in to 4Wheel is the front LS, or is it same as the rear just one wheel peel. I'm wondering this because it seems to have alot more traction, than really i should have. ETC.(3 Wheels instead of 2)? Thanks in advance
If you have LS (3.55LS) then it's just the rear. When in 4 wheel with a LS in rear you have 3 wheel. But from what it sounds like (1 wheel peel) you didn't get the 3.55LS rear axle. The added traction comes from the weight of the engine. Not sure about ford IFS but most front axles can house an aftermarket LS. What I've seen done is install a true locker in the rear and a LS in the front.

I wouldn't advise one though...Unless you are a serious guru...
-the cause excess tire wear
-and they also are Very hard to steer.

GSXR,
The front end of the F-150 is an open differential. The weight of the engine aids with the traction. The way a differential works is simple. Say the differential case speed is 100% and the left wheel is is turning at 90% of the case speed then the right wheel must turn at 110% of the case speed. So as long as surface traction allows it both front ( same applies to rear) wheels will turn. When one wheel locks (gets stuck) it turns 0% of the differential case speed so the other wheel spins 200%. Hope ths helps.

LS rear is two wheel and locking in the front gives you 3 wheel. Ford don't offer true 4 wheel drive. Come to think of it, I don't believe anyone offers true 4wd, at least not since International.
