F-150 v. Explorer Sport 0-60???
Hi all, I drove past a sharp looking Explorer 2-door Sport today and am torn between getting one of those or an F-150. Just out of curiosity, which is quicker? The Explorer Sport with the SOHC V-6, or a regular cab F-150 4X4 ORP 3.73 LS with the 5.4L Triton. Thanks!
If I'm not mistaken (and I may very well be) the Explorer Sport will be discontinued after 1999. (Or maybe it was 2000.)

My bet would be on the 5.4L V8.
Lots of low end torque.

I think the Explorer Sport is faster. Maybe not a lot faster, but it's faster.

HI!... 54REGCAB : The v-8 EXPORER is a dog! When my truck was totally stock I use to destroy them from light to light. Now that my truck has been modified, I don't even bother with them. lol!
P.S - JMC's wife has a EXPLORER SPORT with the SOHC V-6-4.0 (205h.p) with 4.10 gears. I'll see if he will run me this weekend and I'll let you know how he does!LOL!!!!

I have a 4.6 F-150 and a 4dr. Explorer 4.0 SOHC, the Explorer will beat my F-150. My stepdad's 5.4 F-150 hangs with it but the Explorer is still faster after a certain speed. I think my Explorer has 3.73 gears. Those SOHC Explorers are fast, mine hauls ***. They also have five speed automatics and shift quickly. I wish my truck shifted the same way. I love this Explorer as much as my truck.

My mom has a 4 dr Explorer with the 4.0 SOHC and 3.55 with 5 speed auto. My 5.4L won't hang. They are fast with a very strong pull! This engine/tranny combo is what they ought to be putting in the base mustang. A 5 speed auto would be awesome in an F-150. Now a 2 wheel drive F-150 5.4L will probably be closer. But the 2 dr Explorer with a 5 speed maunual will be fast. Car and Driver tested this combo a couple years ago and if I remember correctly the 0-60 time was in the high sevens/low eights. O yeah, my brother-in-laws V-8 Explorer was no stronger than her 4.0 SOHC.
P.S. Conqsoft, I just saw 10 2000 Explorer Sports on the dealer lot last night so they are not discontinued.

A stock 2000 5.4L regular cab would kill an Explorer sport. Way too much low end torqe and horsepower than the explorer can put out.
Since you asked, my BEST 0-60 time in my 2000 has been 7.8 seconds (7.9 standard on 78 Octane)...and that is with a supercab..a regular cab would be a bit faster. Not a chance for that V6 in the explorer.
Here is the HP and torque between the two:
