where do you call about electric company price gouging?

i know this is the most off the wall question to ask but this is one of the only places i have a forum account where its most likely that someones done it...... now locally our electric company has been messing around lately and really gouging up the prices (i seriously am talking about like 5 or 6 more gallons yet the price doubling) and of course we know what happens if you dotn pay it in their alotted time......... and last week i called em out on it and all they can say is "everyones rose a 20% increase", which i think is BS.... if it was anything like cable id just jump ship to an alternate place but thats not the case, so i gonna try to get em checked out by some big people, now would anyone know who that would be?...... the first thing that came to mind was the BBB but im not really sure this is a buisness per say...... so if anyones done it then whered you go?....

That kind of stuff is all handled by the state. You need to find if they have some kind of utility commission or whether it mat be handled by the attorney general's office.

It's probably handled by the TVA and then by your local co-op, judging from your location. Mine went all to hell, too. Let me know if you have any luck or find who to complain to.

Most of our people to complain to are probably locked up! We're getting screwed on the "fuel adjustment" charges.

The industry got approval to raise their rates starting this year. We are feeling the pain too. Back in August, we paid our electric bill 20 days late because of some medical bills that jammed us up, and our electric was shut off the day AFTER we paid it, even though the funds were cleared. They told us that they would turn it back on in 3 days. They turned it on in 4 days. They do whatever they want, because they are not required to provide good customer service. There is no competition. I work for the telephone company, and I can tell you that if we did that to our customers, we wouldn't have any customers any more.

we just had a big ice storm up here in central mass and ALOT of people lost power for up to 12 days incuding myself. they underestimated the amount of damage and when other power companys offered to come and help restring lines and clear downed trees etc... they said no cause they didnt want to pay the overtime or have other utility companys on there turf...and when asked what is taking so long the company c.e.o says" we dont have enough eqipment and manpower for the job" finally after about 5 days companys from about 10 states started showing up to help. a crew from pennsylvania restored power to my house. they are always in the top 10 as far as highest rates in the northeast..service sucks

Natural gas is what s eating my lunch. The winters have been so mild lately, the PSC has allowed them to raise rates to cover their expenses

Try paying OVER $400 in the winter to heat ur home. You've got what, 2-3 GOOD months of summer where you need AC. We've got 4, sometimes 5 months of needing heat.

You ain't gonna die without AC, but hypothermia's a bitch.

Although, I have a pellet stove which heats my 2200sqft Colonial to 70*, and I paid just under $900 for 4 tons which will last me til spring.

Are you kidding? We use AC in the winter also... Seriously, we do, and the HOT summer months are March-November. Ok, maybe I embellished a little, but May, June, July, August and September are a bitch. Oct-Nov we will run the A/C and the heat during the same day.

People die all the time in the South due to the heat...
