Unhappy Screwed up ordering Tow Pack., Need Suggestions

I know this is my fault for not being more careful with my order(8/25) and delivery(10/25). When I was ordering my Truck,(remember the day the Stock Market started a big drop?), using the 1999 brochure, and the not yet completed 2000 Ford ordering system, the saleman had (easily)talked me into the class III tow pack. I was originally concerned witht suspension becauseof the cap I was going to get and the past problems with my Ranger/cap. He had trouble inputing package it came up with the HD cool/elec sys. which is apart of the Package. Until last night, I never gave it a second thought, work nights, lots of o/t due to Y2K, cold weather, etc. I was on Fordvehicles.com looking at 2000 options when it hit me, I never saw a hitch connection. I checked all my paperwork this AM and all that was there was the HD cool/elec. I left a voice mail for the salesman today, waiting for Y3K maybe shorter.
So what do you think I should do:
1. try to negotiate with dealer and get them to put the rest of the package on, under warranty.
A. does anyone know the Tow III price?
2. go aftermarket, suspension, hitch
A. suggested dealers, manu., prices

What does the HD suspension package include for Tow III package?

One little biscuit, I got a $80 discount on the HD alt.

Dang it! Not to worry however. The hitch would be easy. The HD Shocks a little more $ but easy to do. The fact that you got the Tranny cooler and HD alterntor is the best part. If you was goin ta make a mistake you made the easiest one to fix. Shocks $200, Hitch and wireing $150? Maybe you can shame the dealer into swappin out some? Go in there highly indignant and trash that salesman good and see what happens.

I think you would be better off with aftermarket shocks anyway. I recommend Trailmaster, Edelbrocks IAS, Black Diamond(Warn) or Rancho 9000's.

Hitch? No recommned here. they all seem the same if you find the direct no drill class III ones.

I am working mine up to Tow package from nothing. Have done the Shocks and hitch and am just now doing the Tranny cooler. Not worried about the alternator as I don't pull anything real heavy that puts a damand on the electic like electric brakes but if I ever needed a new one I will upgarde then.

Good luck

mtknee, I'm reading that you ordered the Tow Package but, it didn't get ordered. If you have anything in writing or an honest salesman they should resolve this for you.
Sounds like you just paid for the HD/Elect Cooling pkg?
If this is the case approach the dealer like this:
Tow pkg invoice = $340(includes HD/Elec)
minus HD/Elect... $178(invoice)
Balance $162.
Tell them for $162 you want a Ford Hitch and seven pin connector(w/adaptor) and heavy duty shocks.(Installed)

You'd be hard pressed to match $162 for that on the outside.

mtknee, I am confused, you said the salesman couldn't get on the ordering file? He said that you were getting the tow pack? Did you ever get a computer read out of the truck you ordered?
I did the same time frame in ordering July99 and had to use 99 info, that's how I got screwed on my tranny and change in rear seating....Go AFTER THEM, if you have any of the paper work that shows your order, even if it's hand written,by the way. how did your dealer handle the price increase?

Uh oh! I thinks me would be mad if the HD Cool/Elect package didn't have a Auxiliary Tranny Cooler.

MtKnee,

I'd push the dealer for cash settlement and go aftermarket. the shocks that ford uses are a joke. Look at all the trucks here with ORP and or tow pacs. that have still replaced thier shocks.IMO Rancho 9000's are the way to go becayse they have 5 different settings to allow you to get the amount of control you want.

A hitch in my are is 1/2 the price aftermanket as the ford hitch for the same load rating.

If you dont tow a trailer with a 7 pin plug then that big stock plug box is just another hassel requiring an adptor to go to the 4 flat or what ever harness you need to tow.

By luck or mistake you did get the two hardest up grades already with the h/d cooling/elec.

When it comes to dealer dealings good luck and ride them hard.

Question

Cash settlement?
I misunderstood. If you paid for the tow package and didn't get 'all' of it, then I agree take the money buy an $80(approx) hitch, put it on yourself and be done with it. You already have a 4-pin(I hope) and just forget the shocks.

I had a hitch and wiring installed on my Windstar and they went thru hell for the $160 they charged. The frame on the F150 is different and won't be that bad.

Thumbs down

I ordered and received the Tow Package on my SD.
It included:
* heavier suspension components (sway bar), * Transmission cooler,
* Higher-Amp alternator,
* 7-wire harness under the bed,
* different fuse/relay box under the hood (for electric trailer brakes),
* a bag of relays and wiring to connect an owner installed Electric Brake controller in the glove box,
* 4-pin connector on the rear bumper.
* NO Hitch
The hitch was a separate line-item that required the tow-package. Sounds like you might have paid for a LOT of missing parts
Good Luck.

Hey J-C, my dads company truck has factory trailer package, but it only has a 4-pin harness. I have seen other 2000 superduty's with the big round harness. What gives?

mtknee
my truck came with the HD cool/elec sys.
and for some reason it only has a single core
radiator all the trucks that i have seen with the tow package have had double core radiators.

mtknee,
My old 98 had the HD elect/cool pack but not the tow pack. I added a Valley hitch for $99.99,it went on in about tne minutes. I can't tell a difference in towing with my 99 with the factory tow pack except for the slightly stiffer suspension and the 7pin connector. If the dealer won't budge on it then just buy a Valley or similar pre-drilled hitch and be done with it. If you have a manual tranny then you probably won't want to tow enough weight to warrant the rest of the stuff anyway.

Pastmaster, the 7-wire harness is UNDER the bed. About midway, inside left frame rail, I think. I didn't order the factory Class IV hitch, so there was no connector installed. Nor was the electric brake relay installed. The parts for that were in a poly bag in the glove box.
When I had the 5th wheel hitch installed, the electric brakes were connected and the 7-pin connector was added.
I think the 4-pin connector mounted on the bumper is "standard" - even if you don't order the Tow package.
Look for a bundle of wires under the bed.
