You know what really grinds my gears...

people who complain about things that they have never experienced for themselves. i recently met a young group of people who weren't going to college, didn't have jobs, but were lobbying AGAINST the war and saying that our current President wasn't worth this and that and we shouldn't be over there and we need our soldiers here etc....

I'm an Infantry vet that was in Iraq in late 03, 04, and early 05. I've been in situations that they make movies out of. I have a 21 yr old wife who is training to be a K9 handler to go over to Afghanistan. While i could be talking about how crappy the gov is, etc.. why don't people ask the SOLDIERS how THEY feel before going off and trying to change something they don't understand?

my wife volunteered for this. I simply asked her why? her answer: You've done your part for this country, now I want to do my part. how can i argue with her on that? most people live their whole life only thinking of themselves, and here she WANTS to help change the world.

Do i agree with the war in Iraq or Afghanistan? That's not my call...but as long as my brothers are going outside the wire everyday, I'll support them.

i dont have much experience with the things you've pointed out. i dont agree that hind sight should be used to decide whether a war was right or wrong. its an unfair advantage.

and i must say, the men and women out there giving their lives, and risking them are some brave souls. i could not bring myself to volunteer the possibility of being killed. now if someone attacks the homeland near me and i have the chance to fight back, hell yeah im in. after all, im only a few miles from hanford, i can hear their PA system sometimes.

Well said, makes me proud just to read your post. I completely understand where you are coming from. Coming back from Viet Nam, we were told to get out of uniform and into civilian clothes as soon as we got to Sea-tac so we would not be ridiculed and harassed, it was ugly. We all changed in the airport latrines ASAP. Although the Viet Nam war was a disaster, I believe the wars we are fighting now is like planting seeds for a forest. It takes time, lots of time for freedom to grow. Hopefully our great grandchildren can feel safer in this world. But man do we have many enemies to deal with because we are not making many friends. I wish you and your wife the best, be safe and happy holidays.
