Question Tach with a V6

My dad is good with electronics and he is going to try to make a tach to go in the cd storage above my aftermarket cd player. Does any who's truck came with a V6 have a tach? If so where's it red line? I know the V8's dont have a red line(at least my dads doesn't and others i have seen). Any info would be helpful. Thanks
Chuck

This has been covered before but I forgot where.
If you dig enough (search function) you should be able to find it.

I have a 4.2/auto trans and a tach - I am pretty sure that there is not an indicated redline on the gauge (which is kind of strange...) Just check your owner' manual specifications for the motor - it should list where the max HP is made, that is where the redline should be IMHO.

cooltruck,

Get the superchip and you can push the rev limiter higher.

cooltrucks: The peak horsepower comes at 4,750 rpm with the V6. That indicates to me that the redline I should be 5,000 rpm.

If someone with an XLT is feeling brave, how about planting your foot on the gas pedal until the electronic rev-limiter cuts in and posting the result. Not me!

I've never seen any official information about redline, and I don't recall seeing the information on this site, anywhere. I started a thread a while ago called "tacky tack" for this very reason - why no redline from the factory?
