I saw on Fox news that some of the major credit card processing systems went down in UK but should be back up in a day or so.

 

It's not even 2000 yet in UK at this time. Guess they tried it early huh.

 

Found it Seacrow, Here is the pres release of the UK issue:

Retailers? card reader problem. This affected about 5 per cent of the terminals supplied by banks to process credit and debit card transactions in shops. By the morning of Thursday 30 December the problems had largely been resolved.

Consumers should not now be inconvenienced by retailers having to use the back-up system of paper vouchers. This minor glitch did not affect ATMs (cash machines), and did not prevent people from making purchases. Further details fromthe Bank of England.

My local paper re-ran the classifieds from Nov. 28th on Dec. 28th. I had phone calls from people wanting places for rent but I had no vacancies. The lady on the phone said it was Y2K related and they advanced the dates on their computers as a test and it messed up anyway. Who knows?
