My rule of thumb is never use any P2P (limewire, etc.), never use public torrents (only use the ones you've got to get an invite in to, the rest generally are loaded with dumbasses who won't seed, spyware, poor quality files, and you can get caught easily). I like to USE the NET. Google it.

Wow p2p programs are for complete idiots.

If you're not completely computer illiterate then you should know what a torrent is right... good luck getting into a decent private tracker though. Scenetorrents or bust, but they stopped sending invites a LONG time ago. So basically you're out of luck.

Go ahead and use limewire, but don't come crying to us when your identity goes missing.

I've never experienced either of those things that you mentioned. So I will have to dispell your statement that "most of the time are filled with viruses and spyware." This just is not true.

get an FTP server up and running and then get on #efnet on mIRC and start downloading.

Newsgroups rock as well. Can soak up a ton of stuff from those. Love Newsgroups.

Actually, it is. The best kinds of viruses and spyware are the kind you NEVER notice. There are entire forums based around injecting P2P programs with viruses, you'd be amazed at what they can lift from people without them knowing one bit. Credit card numbers, passwords for bills, bank accounts, anything that uses a password period. Tax information, pretty much anything they want. I could give you one song and guess what's attached to it? A trojan with a keylogger payload. When you play the song, it plays like any other normal song. But in the background it quickly and efficiently attaches a keylogger to vital system files so if you delete it, there goes your windows install. Now a detailed report of every key you press, what time you pressed it, what window was in focus when you pressed it, as well as a screenshot every five minutes is uploaded and sent to my private FTP server at intervals of my choosing. And there's NO way to tell this is happening at all. Think about it.
