Question Where is dome light switch?

I have a 97 F-150 with 4.6 and the dome light stays on a lot of the time even with the door closed. I need to replace this switch but can't find it. Normally there is a push button inside the door well.

It's in the door latch, Larry. Notice how the light comes on when you pull up on the handle without even opening the door? On my '95 Windstar, the interior lights come on even when the door is locked. I guess Ford backed off from going this far as strangers could walk by, pull on the handles and turn on your interior lights. At least on my '99 truck the door must be unlocked to make the light come on.

Do you have the Autolamp system? Do you have a super cab. If so it is on the wheel that controls this autolamp system. Otherwise it may (on a Super cab at least) be the one hidden in the two door (passenger side) frame. It is part of the latch.

The light does not come on when I pull the door handle. It is a regular cab and not an autolamp system. How do I get to the switch. Do you have to take the door apart? Could the switch be under the kick panel driver side attached to the arm?

Mine is also doing the same thing. I have a 97 and the sensor is located in the latch. The dealer said they go bad quite often. It only cost $7 for it and you will have to remove the door panel to get to it. There are 3 bolts that hold the latch in place, just loosen the latch the sensor just pops out and pop in the new one.

How do you get the door molding off? Also it looks like the door handle has to come off. I tried pulling on the molding. Does it pry straight out? Would probably be easy to replace the swithch if you can get the molding off.
