Red face Tundra has me worried.

I have just seen the toyota commerical. I am now worried that Kenworth and Peterbuilt will suffer. Maybe instead of purchasing a new rig , companies will buy the tundra and outfit it with a 5th wheel hitch. I can just see all of these Toyota's with semi trailers on the back. Passing all of the trucks on the highway and getting better mileage.

Well I may be jumping to conclusions but hey , I did see it pull a load past all of those other trucks.

Okay, I gotta comment on this thread. Kenworth and Peterbilt have absolutely no reason to worry - regardless what class of truck we're talking about. The Kenworth T-2000 and the Peterbilt 387 are absolutely knock-down gorgeous trucks that run run run. I won't get into torque or horsepower or the 42" Color TV or Internet access via satelite that is available.

A Kenworth T-2000 recently broke the land-speed record at Bonneville. This was a street legal 'massaged' full-size class-8 truck. It hit 146mph.

I'm also not affiliated with the American Truckers Association. (But I do work for PACCAR - the parent company of Kenworth and Peterbilt. Forgive me, I'm a ringer) If you'd like to see more of what these companies have available go to http://www.paccar.com and have a look around

non-commercializingly,

Uh Oh. I've just noticed that Tom says that he is from Tacoma???? now maybe this is code that he is really from Toyota (ie the toyota tacoma). His post could be a ruse to throw us off track.

Just a quick comment about the Tundra. If you'll notice in all of their advertising they claim to out tow, out accelerate, out this, out that all other trucks. This may or may not be true. One thing that caught my eye about their out accerlating times is the fact that it comes stock with a 3.93 rear end. A slight advantage over Ford's 3.55 in the accerlating department!

I personally don't pay any attention to advertising because it's all such a bunch of BS anyway. I.E., Dodge saying that is has the only V-8 in it's class for the Dakotah, well of course it does, it's the only midsized pickup produced!! If they want to start comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges they wouldn't have much hoop-la to advertise about!

Just my two cents.

Hah! Mike J. - SPLAT!! (the sound of a hand slapping a face) I'm insulted. The Toylet was named after my hometown - not the other way around....

Consider yourself reprimanded....

Good one huh Tom. I just started this thread because I saw the Toyota ad for the first time. What a bunch of Crap. When you wrote back it just fell in place, It was perfect.

Toyota's truck should compete with the Dakota in my opinion. I don't hate toys but they are not full size , and they don't out do my truck.

PS .... it is hard to use sarcasem here. The first post does not show what a joke it was.

The Toyota Tundra was not tested against the 5.4L engine in the acceleration test. I picked up a Tundra booklet a few weeks ago and in the fine print..especially on page 40 ...it states that a "1999 4x2 4.6L Ford F-150" was used to compare in acceleration and frame integrity tests...(4.8L Silverado and a 5.2L Dodge Ram were also tested against it in this test)

A "1999 4x4 5.4L F-150" was used to test Braking and turning radius. (5.3L Silverado, 5.9L Dodge Ram were used in this test).

A stock 99+ 5.4L Supercab F-150 would easily give the Tundra a run for its money in the acceleration test. (a regular cab would easily out run it).

I'm with Fast46.

I haven't run (over) one yet. Haven't even seen one. Should be interesting...

The look on the drivers face...

Red face

These commercials have me worried too.
I've done some calculations based on the numbers they displayed.
Shocking but true, 17 Tundra's facing East, all of them stomp on it at the same time...

and they can actually change the rotation of the Earth.

The only good things that come to mind are:
I'll finally get to see a beautiful sunset over the water.
Y2K will never get here.

Cool

fast46triton,

Let me know how you do! I have not seen that many on the road in my area...compared to F-150s and the other Yahoos.

I would like to Tundra hunt one time myself...just for fun.
