SSG-E6
US Army
1987 - 1996, ETS'd

Former Stations:
Ft. Jackson, SC: Aug. 1987 - Oct. 1987 (Basic)
Ft. Gordon, GA: Oct. 1987 - Dec. 1987 (AIT)
Hindenberg Kaserne, (Wurzburg, Former West Germany): Jan. 1988 - Jan. 1990
Ft. Huachuca, AZ: Jan 1990 - Dec. 1991

*****Gulf War / Operation Desert Shield/Storm/Calm, Nov 1990 - June 1991*****

Ft. Gordon, GA: (AIT): Dec. 1991 - April 1992
Ft. Hood, TX: April 1992 - Sept. 1994
Camp Casey/Hovey, South Korea: Oct. 1994 - Nov. 1994
Camp Red Cloud: Nov. 1994 - Oct. 1995
Fort Hood, TX: Oct. 1995 - Dec. 1996

Total TIS: 9 years, 3 months, and some odd days... Re-enlisted twice, extended once (1991 & 1993).

Wish I had stayed?: Damn right!

It's not for everybody- but, if you enjoy your job, you might as well stay.

If you're thinking about re-enlisting... Do it. Sure, I've made far more money, and been safer as a civilian, than I would have had I continued my service. But, once you serve, you'll find civilian life/civilian work is something of a let down. The only pluses being, no alerts, no deployments, no FTX's, no 5 AM wake-ups (unless you choose to).

Just my opinion.

I plan on re-enlisting for another 4 and maybe even going to officer school just depends if I make sergeant this time around. I personally love this ****! I spent two years in Misawa AB, Japan and enjoyed every minute of it then I volunteered for 6 months in Kabul doing convoys with the army and I would rather be here than back stateside. Something about the states just turns me off, maybe it's the way stateside personnel act and just us as Americans in general. Sure you could make a lot of money as a civilian depending on your job but what's the fun it that? At least this way if the world went into a mass panic I could order civilians around, lol. Seriously though I've got a few more months before I hit my 4yr mark/re-enlistment and I'm still loving it. 1% of the population or less ever serves in the military and I plan to be apart of that for awhile hopefully.
