Towing with the 4.2l
Is this safe? Here are my calculations:
10000 lbs GCWR
-4600 lbs Truck w/ full tank and cap
- 600 lbs driver + 3 passengers
-1000 lbs safety leeway
-1500 lbs enclosed trailer
=2300 lbs payload
I am thinking of towing this load from SF to LA through both Gilroy and Grapevine slopes. Will the truck able to handle this much? The manual states that my truck can handle 10K GCVR but I want to hear from your experiences. Would I need a tranny cooler, or electric brakes? By the way, I want to buy a Class 3 hitch, is there one that is "universal" or at least doesn't need to have holes drilled on the frame? Would the Superchip help with the towing?

See "towing" in general discussion it may be a few pages back by now.
Most Class III hitches come ready to mount on our F150s with no drilling required.
Hey Roger how about some hitches for the marketplace
