Question Question for "The Tech Wizards"

I don't want to revisit the whole "air box" mod sites. I have read Steve Wroblewski"s Tech artical on the mod. I have visited http://home.wsbell.net/lexus1/mods.html.
I have tryed to make some sense out of removing the silencer tube from the air box. It seems like a lot of work for a small gain.

IE - once you have removed the largest restriction, the small tube from the fender to the air box - opened that end up even further & installed a K&N, can you actually expect gains from removing the silencer tube ???.

It seems to me (no expert) that once the FIRST (fender ETC.) restriction is removed that will be about all the air you can ram thru the T.B. opening. It looks like the silencer tube is ABOUT the same size as the T.B. opening & you are getting all the air that that opening will take.

This same thing happens with long runs of electrical wire, & pneumatic air lines. - In order to push any of those media (air, or electricity) you have to start of with a large diameter opening, or wire, to carry the current, or flow, then as the length INCREASES, the diameter can DECREASE.

In other words - once you open the fender end of the air box - to - whatever, you cannot build up more air in the lines following that opening.

It would seem to me - that "The MAF" mod would be better than the "Silencer" mod & it looks easier !!!

Look at the AirAid, or K&N filtercharger - they are the same diameter from the filter back to the T.B. - about the diameter of the T.B. opening.

Does "vortex" help at this point - IE a large volume of air (K&N + air box opening) trying to force it's way thru a smaller (T.B. opening) come into play at this point - not unlike a supercharger ??

Can not the T.B. opening only accept so much air ??? & does not the silencer tube direct this volume straight into the opening ???

Am I off base, or what - come on you "TECHIES" clue me in.

Thanks
