Post Buying a new truck

Lifelong jeep owner looking at upgrading to new F150 supercab 4X4. Which V8 engine option do people recommend? Any other advice appreciated.

You've asked one of those questions that is really "personal". We ALL think that the engine we got is the best one What YOU need to do is figure out what you will be using this truck for. If you do a lot of heavy pulling, pick the 5.4. Concerned about gas milage, 4.6. Want to put a camper in the bed, don't pick the flareside!! Then look at $$situation, after all the 5.4 does cost a little more. Now you think you know what you want??? Go test drive both of them YOU have to pick it from there!!!

ARE tonneau cover, p255/70rx16 tires (came w/235), Superchip
Pioneer CD w/4 Polk Speakers & Clarion APA5240amp, skid plates
bed liner, side window deflectors, reese hitch, K&N air filter
40s-2chamber Flowmaster, Bosch +4 spark plugs, rustproofing
Better Built Stainless nerf bars

If you prefer a manual transmission the 4.6 is the only V8 option. If you know how to drive an automatic you may want to move up to the 5.4, especially with all that extra weight of the Supercab and 4x4.

My left foot has a mind of it's own and the clutch had better be under it Because if I'm in an automatic and my left foot "forgets" and hits that HUGE brake pedal instead...Well, let's just say It's not a pretty sight AND yes, I too would have had the big 5.4 but Ford in their infinite wisdom doesn't offer it in manual. But I did go test drive a 6speed PowerStroke yesterday. Now let me tell you, there's some POWER!!

Didn't mean to confuse anyone. I was addressing the question about the V8 options. I had the same concern when ordering my truck. While the 4.6 is available with either stick or auto, the 5.4 is auto only. So, if you must have a stick the "which V8" decision is made for you. aub4418 described his/herself as a "Lifelong Jeep owner", I pictured a Wrangler and mud and stuff. I drove a stick for 21 years and when I opted for the horsepower of the 5.4 over what I really wanted, a clutch, it took awhile before my left leg stopped moving when I came to a light. Sometimes my left foot actually clipped the brake pedal.

I used to say I'd rather eat worms than drive an automatic but, hey I guess people's tastes change.

Cool

Yeah the changeover from stick to auto was tough for me too but I had to have the 5.4L.
When I test drove them both big difference on low end power on 5.4l.
Needless to say after that I had to have the 5.4L.
Still miss the shift control of manual though.
I just hate it when the auto shifts when I don't want it to.

More mods as funds become avalible.
