Post Gas brand preference

I have a question that perhaps someone on this board can answer. When I buy gas for the truck, I look for the best price. That is the nature of a free market economy. Assuming that the major brands of fuel are fairly equal, I would guess that the buyer would go for the least expensive station. It blows my mind to see people buying gas at a station where the prices are $.05 more than the station across the street. Aren't we defeating the purpose of price competition when we do this?

What do you all think?

At home, I always use Chevron from the same place because of convenience, billing, and reasonable price. However, on the road, I go for whatever is the cheapest name brand gas.

I always use Chevron 89 regardless of cost. Just the way I am.

I have to use 92 octane, so I usually go with Phillips66, besides I have a card, that gets me a 2% discount, or so I have been informed
