Question Towing: Cruise On?

Question: I sometimes pull a 16'car trailer with either a Boomer tractor or a '76 IHC Scout. I usually pull it up to friends land cause its a pile of $#%^ and I don't trust it to make it up on its own, its a blast to hunt/go muddin in. Anyways, I have heard that you can tow a trailer in Overdrive if it doesn't shift alot. Yadda Yadda Yadda. So can I tow with the Cruise on? There really isn't but one steep hill and the truck only downshifts out of Overdrive once@39 miles. Thanks for the help Ya'll.

Hey,

I towed a buddies bass boat for 500 miles, mostly in cruise. It was pretty hilly between Mississippi and Texas. I think the truck did fine even at 80 mph BUT MAN, it ate the gas UP! We were in a caravan of 4 trucks and boats and I was lead truck. Comin' back I didn't go as fast, didn't lead and didn't use cruise control and doubled my gas mileage. I only have a 150 with 4.6L, YOUR truck could pull a house in cruise.

I think this truck can handle a lot more than most people will try...

my .02

Mark

A 302 pulling a house? Maybe on wheels. Okay thanks for the details. I guess I thought that using the cruise helps gas mileage, maybe not! Thanks again

Cool

Pastmaster - see my comments re my experience 6 lines down from here - Towing with F150.
I pull 6000 lbs with mine - usually O'd off. I run the Interstate, Canada to Calif & Ariz. If I dont have a good tailwind in O'd, the revs fall around 2000 & there is not lots of torque. Out of O'd, running at 3000 rpm, I do abt 100 KPH & It has some "punch".
I have not noticed a great deal of differance in milage in, or out of O'd, I just think, in my case the engine runs better - No "lugging"
Hope this helps.
