Need help choosing a camera
No offense, but both of those cameras are horrible. Photography is a big hobby of mine and I would say N-O to both of those. If you can only spend that much, try your best to find a Sony or an Olympus. Those will be the best for you at that price. Extremely versatile, but still great quality. Good luck!
Hey Cowboy.....
Both of which ???
I'm assuming you read the OP's post, and skipped straight to a response (that's okay... I do that sometimes myself :-)
I would definately pass on the Kodak.
Sony makes some decent cameras. But I'd definately choose an Oly over a Sony.
As I had said, I'm also an avid amature photographer myself...... and an avid visitor of DPreview (moreso in the past)
But from listening to the photo gurus, it would be;
Canon,
Fuji,
Oly,
Panny,
...in that order.
In fact, to see for yourself, what I'm saying, go to DPreview and look at the camera database. You can see how many personal reviews each camera, and camera manufacturer has recieved, and the ratings of those reviews, individually, or summed up / averaged.

Hope this isn't too many.... I can never pick just one or two favorites :-)
Peace,
Fish

Sweet pics Chris!!
My first digtal was a Kodak and I was not impressed at all. I now have 2 Canons. One is a full body camera, the other is a pocket type. I love them both but usually just end up using the smaller one. There are other cameras out there that Im sure are fine but I would recommend anything from Canon.

Hey Lovethetide.....
I haven't owned the A590is "specifically"..... But I got my A630 first, and loved it so much, I then got the A640. Wasn't too long after that, I got my A650is. {these cameras were all in the $250 to $350 range.... but unfortunately, all have been discontinued, as they were taking away too much from the sales of Canon's flagship G10... a $450 camera} All of the A-series Canons have lots in common though, so when somebody recently asked on the DPreview forum, "What's a great compact for less than $150" ? I wasn't surprised to hear the A590is suggested.
I am actually considering an A590is myself, for an always-with-me truck-cam..... {because the 7 cameras I have now, are not enough ! Doh ! :-)
Peace,
Fish
PS, Just wanted to add; If you get this camera (or any other camera that "hopefully" uses AA's) make sure to get you a little AA recharger, and a set of 4 NiMH AA rechargeable batteries. You can get these as a set, for really cheap... like $20 at Wal-Mart, but I'd suggest looking for a set (or seperates if you have too) that has the latest generation "Hybrid rechargeables". These will last as long as most other rechargeables, but also have much better shelf life...... and still, {since you can} always keep a set of old school alkalines with you, as those will last at least 10 years.... maybe 20 ! ....so you will never be stuck without juice :-)
You will also need extra memory (no cameras from any company, come with enough memory, unless in a kit).... I'd say at least 512mb's, but maybe a 1 or 2gig. Don't worry, if you have checked lately, memory has gotten dirt cheap. Probably get an offbrand 1gig for $14.99.
Oh, and this is a very cool little case for your camera, extra batts..... waterproof, dust proof, shock resistant, temp insulated....

I have the 1050 in blue :-) ....need another for my truck.... and like I said.... I need that A590 to put in it :-)
