Post Where is the Speed Sensor?

Have a '99 F150 with auto trans. and wondering where the vehicle speed sensor is on the tranny. I need to splice into the wires coming from it for a performance computer. Is the VSS easy to reach? TIA

Most of the rest of us put our performance chips onto the main Ford computer. No splicing into wires!!! Post this into the computer chips section and you will get more response

Dunno about the truck but on my '95 Contour the speed sensor went between the speedometer cable and the transmission right where the speedometer cable enters the transmission. Went out on me goin through Ohio, lost cruise,O/D,and speedometer. I would imagine its probably located there on the F150.

Try looking under the driver's side, aft end of the tranny. From the front of the truck..it is located just a few inches behind the side mirror, now go under the truck and locate the transmission. There is a connector with two wires just in front of the driver's side exhaust pipe (the Y- pipe??). A few inches above and forward of the pipe.
or..try...
The two wire connector is just a few inches in front of a solid, main cross beam. It is up above this beam, driver's side.(right by the exhaust pipe mentioned above)

If you still do not see it...try looking approximately 10-12 inches forward of the front of the main drive shaft coupling, driver's side.

You will see two bundled wires going into a connector on the transmission. If you pull this connector out..the speedometer is dead...and your tranny will no longer shift properly...maybe one of these is the one you are looking for????

Now this is a '98 5.4L, 4 x 2, super cab, auto ..so it might not be in the exact same position as another model..like the 4.6 or 4.2???

Good luck!!! I hope this helps...If you need additional info on where this connector is..let me know!!
