Lincoln LS, thoughts?

i been seeing a few 2000-2005 lincoln ls's for sale around here, been pondering about buying one if i can get ones price down and sell my probe.

only thing is i know absolutely nothing about the car, does anyone have input on it?

looking for it being a family car, something easy to pack a kid in with. i dont make very many road trips so it would double mostly as a DD and short trip car.

Might want to ask over here:

I only know one person with one and they like it...but they're old like me with no kids. It's just a nice car to get around in to them.

They quit making them for a reason.

Because they sucked.

If you really want one, avoid '00s and '01s, shoot for '03 or later, and you're still gonna have a lot of little quirks particular to the LS.

Unless you're willing to work on it yourself, they're expensive cars to own and maintain, and even so a lot of the LS specific bits and pieces aren't cheap.

My Dad had a 02 awhile back. It was fun to drive, when it worked. He got a real bad lemon and out of nowhere at times it would completely shutdown for no reason while driving. Worst was it shutdown on him while on the interstate doing 70.

I have had family members that have had quite a few LS's. Avoid the V6's. Alot less problems for some reason with the V8's.

Was the problem with that car ever found, or was it a give it up and get rid of it?

Nope, it got the lemon law and ford bought it back. Then he got an aviator that he went through 3 rear ends on so that got the lemon law too.

Quintin pretty much covered it. I have a 2000 Jaguar S-Type. If you look past the bumpers and the interior trim they are pretty close and both are Ford products.

The 4.0 V8 motor is a rocketship and the handling is superb but...maintenance cost if something breaks are murderous and internal part build seems to make them unreliable.
Still a cheaper alternative than BMW or Mercedes.

Damn, being an LS owner sounds a lot like owning an SHO.....

Wifey was really looking at an LS8 after we sold the 'Gator

Probably RF interference from ignition coils soaked in engine oil due to leaking valve covers, scrambling the PCM. Especially if it was a V8.

I disagree. The V6 is the same basic 3.0L DOHC 4V used since '96 in the Taurus/Sable, it's good to go. And it's easier to work on than the V8s. Biggest thing with the V6 was the oil separator elbow under the lower intake manifold rotting out and causing lean codes, and they fixed that in 2003 with a new PCV system. Oh, and the intake manifold tuning valves seizing up, blowing the fuse for the transmission controls.

If you can keep an SHO running, an LS is a piece of cake. 2003 or newer is bestest. '02s aren't bad, 2000 and 2001 sucked hard.

how does it compare to a 93 ford probe? lmao

ive never maintained or tinkered on a sho.

sounds like if i can i'll lean toward an 02+. seen a 04 listed for 12k but i cant afford that either right now, right now i'd have to buy a junkyard car that's salvable but thats a lot of work.

My old man has an 00 V6 LS and a friend has an 01 V8 LS. The V6 has been a good car so far and gets pretty good mileage. As for my buddies V8, nothing but problems for him. Noteably in the fit and finish of the car. ( ie, 2 door handles on drivers side, moonroof not working, rattling )

It's pretty much like most of Fords products, hit and miss for the same models.

IMHO, I would go with a V6 if you were to get one.
