Child Safety Seats in S/C
I'm looking to upgrade to a 150 from a Ranger because we are expecting our 2nd child soon. We tried getting around in our current rangers (91 and 99) with 3 but our daughter is still in a seat which puts one of us in the back on the jump seats.
Anyone have or currently using child seats in their S/C 150?
Thanks!

You could always go with a 2000 Crew Cab F150. Full back seat.

mlaporte,
I did the exact same thing last year. I sold my 1993 Ranger & bought an F-150 so I could haul the family around.
To answer your question, yes, I have two child seats in the rear-seat of my 1999 Supercab. I really like how the seatbelts ratchet to hold down the child seats. In order to get the seatbelt to ratchet, the seatbelt must first be pulled ALL the way out. Then you can hear it click as the seatbelt retracts. It automatically releases the ratchet mechanism after the seatbelt has been unfastened. Another thing that I found usefull is the FREE seatbelt extensions that are available at the dealerships. They really help out when trying to get the seatbelt throught the back of the childseat.
Hope this helps,

When I test drove the truck, I took my kids and the child seat with me. Tried the child seat in all different positions and places. My son was 2 1/2 at the time and he really liked being up so high and being able to see down on other cars.

I have a child seat right in the middle of the back seat of my supercab. All in all, it has got to be a very safe place. One thing to be aware of is that the seat does sit a little too upright. I also had to use the front seat (with airbag disabled) for the baby child seat. These are in more of a reclined position and didn't fit in the back unless I had the seat moved all the way up with the steering wheel pushed into my chest. Probably noplace safer than the middle of a SC 4X4 pickup!

mlaporte, I'm a Firefighter,Father,F-150 owner and Certified Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician. I have installed lots of car seats at safty check events and from people stopping by the Fire Station where I work to have thir child seats checked. About 80% of the checks I have done have been incorrect instaltions. Mostly this is due to the fact that seat belts are desinged to hold people, not car seats. New legislation has recently been passed that will require Auto makers and Child Saftey Seat Manufactures to work more closely together in developing a standardized securing system.
Now that the public safety announcement is over, back to your question. The best thing for you to do is take your car seat with you and try it in the truck befor you buy. Make sure you feel satisfied with the fit ( it's your kids that will be riding in it.) Most truck sales men don't know as much about the correct instalation as they will want you to belive. Car seats are only tested faceing front or rear, so if the truck you are looking at has sideways faceing jump seats, rember that the car seat has not been tested in that position. I have intalled several seats in the back front faceing bench seats of supercabs, as BTR said the seat back is very stright and the seat belts sit forward of the seat bite (where the bottom and back of seat join) wich may not allow for a proper fit depending on the type of car seat you have. That is anothrer thing I need to mention, not all car seats fit in all cars or trucks. Each manufacture make them a little diffrently. That is why you need to take your car seat with you when looking at trucks (or take your truck when you are looking at car seats.) Well I have run on longer then I ment to, but let me say one last thing to everyone who sees this. NEVER USE A CHILD SAFTEY SEAT IN FRONT OF AN AIR BAG!!! (unless it is turned off) Air bags can, and do kill kids in safety seats. If you are in doubt about the installation of your car seat, or just want to get it checked for your peace of mind (80% incorrect installation) contact your local fire or police departments,AAA, or Department of Moter Vehicles and see it they do free seat checks.

I have just bought a F150 supercab. This caters well for my three children, a fourth is on the way. We took our car seats for many test drives. (The kids had great fun!).
We have a stock pile of car seats that we have bought to fit in different cars over the past few years. The good news is that as the F150 has a rear seat is a bench seat, the child seats fit very well and securely.

Not to worry my friend! The little tykes love it in the back of my F150 SuperCab. They have both moved up to booster seats and they REALLY fit well. Kids have lots of room and as someone said, they like the view. On occasion, when just one of the girls is riding with me, I will turn off the air bag and put the booster in front. Jeez, you would have thought the kid had gone to heaven. "Daddy, look I'm up front like a big girl, can I turn that wheel thing?".

Yea, just don't tell the wife that they were sitting up front. I made that mistake once! I got "you know, the safest place for a child is in the rear seat" (read with a very cynical tone.)
I know! I know! The best place is in the back but 1. The Ford is a beast - the little one is safe anywhere in the truck and 2. We didn't even use seat belts when I was a kid. Now they are strapped in like Marrio Andretti!
