Post ORP Is A Rip Off!!

Hi all, I'm very disappointed with what Ford has done to the Off Road Package for the 2000 model year. The largest LT tires that came standard in '99 are now a $300 dollar option ($255 invoice), the nice looking chrome steel wheels that were standard in '99 are now standard on the Lariat, Ford has put back the ugly looking aluminum wheels from years past, and the 3.73 ratio has been canned. I don't know about you all, but I'm not paying 800-some odd dollars for shocks and thinnish skid plates. I think the ORP was a fair value in '99, but now it is just a complete waste in my opinion and piece by piece the price of it has gone up! I think my money will be better spent on the Sport Package.

And inquire about the "regional" discount on the ORP. In '99 it was $850 if you lived right.

dirlton: No way, they are discounting the ORP in some areas. I waited six months for mine back in '96 because I wanted the ORP and the 5.4l.

My $ 0.02, it was worth it

I agree. Ford should have left those other items in (although I admit that I like the aluminum wheels better than the steel ones I have). But...unless I'm mistaken, the ORP also comes with heavy-duty electrical and cooling, and also the class III hitch. The skid plates and the shocks I can live with or without, but the other items to me are definitely "must haves".

Notice I was referring to the discount I got when I ordered my '99. '96 was a different year (check your calendar). It was a "regional" discount available in regions which included Seattle, Denver, Chicago, and the Twin cities. In my case the discount was $850 ($723 net) on the package SRP of $1145 ($973 net). I believe there is something akin to this deal out there for the 2000 model year. Look it up. As it appears on my copy of the dealer invoice: "B3R REGNL PGM 55R BONUS DISCOUNT" (55R = ordering code for the ORP) and later "RESIDENCY RESTRICTIONS APPLY TO DISCOUNTS/SAVINGS ---". I'm pretty good at knowing what I'm talking about, you need practice.

HELLO! I was simply expressing my surprise at how quickly the ORP got discounted, not in how you or I read a calendar.

Careful, that attitude will eat you up!

BEAR -- As in the past, this is how Ford can state to the media that prices are up only slightly between model years, yet when you look closely, there are hidden cost increases. Also, you do pick up a significantly upsized tire (265/17 vs standard 235/16). In my area, it is a steal because of the regional discount mentioned by DIRLTON.

Indigo, I believe the hitch, tranny cooler and heavy duty wiring are a part of the towing package, not the ORP. On my 99,the ORP
contains the wheels and tires, skid plates and the "niffty" decals. The towing package and heavy duty alternator are extra $'s.

Some days you eat bear, some days the bear eats you. Anyway----It is very curious how some people get the ORP for next to nothing and others are required to pay what is, in my opinion, a ridiculous sum bang for the buck- wise. I had absolutely no use for the package at SRP but did want a tire/wheel upgrade and, with the discount, the ORP was the most economical way to go and, in my opinion got you the nicest wheels to boot. Go figure.

What ratio is replacing the 3.73? or is the lowest available 3.55?
