Fish, It makes me feel better to know that someone over analyzes this stuff even MORE than I do Your comments have helped me GREATLY. And I was a little nervous about possibly "needing" a larger t.v., just cause it would put the purchase on hold a month or two. But, after checking out the chart, what we thought was going to be BIG, is going to be just right for us and our regular viewing distance.

efuehrin...we are certainly on the same page with movie time. Thank god for the DVR, or i would never even see a single show. And we completely gave up trying to rent movies.

Again...Thanks Guys. You're helping me out a TON!

Just FYI I just bought a 50" plasma, Blu-ray player, wall mount and HDMI cable for just under 1600 at crutchfield.com.

TV
Panasonic TH-50PZ80U $1199

HDMI cable
Monster Cable MC 800HD-2M $75

Mount
051VMPL50 Sanus VMPL50 Silver $59

Blu-ray
133BD35 Panasonic DMP-BD35K $240 or so.

they are doing the TV for 1460 or so but they will give ya an additional 300 off if you also buy a panasonic blu-ray player.

They blu-ray player is less than $300

TV mounts are 50% off.

That $1600 is Delivered.

HDMI cables are a huge 'profit center' for sellers.
Buy the 'plain wrap' HDMI cables for $5 on the 'net. I have 2 in use right now.
Otherwise, the Crutchfield deal is fantastic.

You're right. That's how they get the high price for them.
Radio Shack, Walmart, Target, etc. will also sell them for a lower price. Just not as cheap as the online deals.
I have engineers in my building. They go nuts over the HDMI cable 'Rip Off'. This is how I found out the cheapies work just as well as the expensive ones.

Enjoy your new 50". In the 'Big Picture', you really did get a good deal ;-).

Check the Hot Deals forum on slickdeals.net

They have good deals on TV's there from time to time. You have to check back daily though because so many threads are constantly updated.

I just bought a 52" Sony this weekend. 120Hz and 1080p.
It is amazing. Totally worth every penny. 120Hz makes a huge difference. I put a VHS tape on just to see. Wow. Even a VHS tape looks amazing.

ITS DONE!!! I've made the purchase!

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys. After reading everyones input here, I really started to get up to speed on whats what with the LCD's and Plasmas. I read reviews, checked prices, watched www.bfads.com, went to the store and looked at them...went to other stores to look at the same tv in a different setting...and its all over.

I went with the Panasonic TH-50PZ80U which is a 50" 1080p Plasma, the same one that efuehrin is waiting to receive from Crutchfield. But I bought mine from a little local owned appliance shop...gotta help out the little guy when you can, right!

Thanks for all your help!

I realize the OP already made his purchase but for what its worth I thought I would share my experience with my Samsung. I bought the 52" lcd with the 120 hz back in August. Was very happy with it til about 2 weeks ago. I started to notice I faint crackling static at times. Not a real big deal. Then... sometimes when I turned it on there would be no pic or sound. After changing the channel a couple of times it would come back on.

Today I come home and no pic or sound. The only thing that works on it are the DVD player and the Wii. This crap always happens to me right before a weekend or holday so I am stuck waiting to get anything done about it. Just like having to take my truck the the dealer AGAIN friday because it started messing up last night.

Needless to say Im not real happy with Samsung OR Ford right now!
