Hood release cable broke, is there a manual release
Mornin -
My neighbor called me late last night, seems his car battery died and he needed a jump start. Well, he had his wife jump in the front seat of their Jeep Cherokee and pull the hood release to open the hood. In doing so, she pulled the release and about 3' of cable came with it. It must have broke off right where it connects to the latch under the hood.
We spent some time trying to pry it open manually. One of us would lift the hood up in front just enough for the other to squeeze his fingers underneath to feel around for a release, but to no avail.
Any Jeep owners (or anyone for that matter) know how we can get this open without using the hood release on the inside of the cab? If not, he'll have to get it towed to a shop, because the battery is dead and there's no way to jump it with the hood closed.

Not sure about the release but if the solenoid on the starter is in the right place you might be able to hook the cables directly to it from underneath. I know I can on my F150. Just don't get run over if you're under it holding the positive in place and don't let it ground out. You only need to get the positive up there, the negative can be hooked to any good ground and should be hooked up last with caution.
I don't know what the starter/solenoid looks like on a Jeep so it may not even be feasible. Just a suggestion.
