Improvised Quick Fixes

Let’s hear some of your best quick fixes or improvised products.

Saw this thread on Reddit on improvised stoves and got me thinking about how amusing the topic is;

I was out in my Dad's 23' Centure Cuddy when I was 14 (alone). It had an I/O motor. I was in the middle of the bay, around 5:30 in the afternoon. Nearest land was probably 1.5 miles. The water hose sprung a leak and was spraying water on the distributor cap. Needless to say, not good. I had no tools on board, and a cheapo flashlight with only 10-20% batteries. The only thing I had was some of those goofy orange life jackets, and a towel. I proceeded to wrap part of the towel around the water hose to cover the leak, then ripped apart a life jacket to get a nice size peice of the orange vinyl. Wrapped that around the towel, then took the nylon waist strap from the life jacket and secured that tightly around the vinyl and the towel. It did not stop the leak, but kept enough water in the system to get me back to the dock, and keep water off the distributor. The next day, I had my sister drive me to the parts place where I got a replacement water hose. Swapped it out, and my Dad never knew. The folks were out of town at the time. Doesnt sound like much, and I'm sure it's not the best story around, but I was pretty proud of myself for figuring it out.
