Sorry, been away from the office all day, and just had time this afternoon to get back online-

Hello Sled. Personally- I don't have any "wish list", or anything like that for President-Elect Obama, with regard to helping me or my family. No more than I had expectations of Bush, Bush, Clinton, or Reagan to make any changes in government that would be to my benefit personally.

However, what I would like to see is a return to the spirit of unity this country had, and that I remember so vividly from 1992 - 2000. This country wasn't as divided along party lines then as it has been from 2000 - 2008. Bush being elected president, in my opinion, did more to erode the foundation of America than has ever happened in the history of this great nation since slavery ended in 1865.

So, the only thing I'm hopeful Obama can do for America, is get us back to where we were Pre-Bush v2.0.

Control our spending and rebalance the budget.

Put a plan in place to take care of our elderly Americans who can't do any better, and who can't afford to both eat and buy/take their medicine. If it cost me a few more tax dollars, so be it...

Return us to a time when Republicans and Democrats (for the most part) worked together to make this a better place for us all.

To make our country the global leader with a vision we once were.

To return America to a spririt of righteousness as opposed one of a venegeful attitude and indifference that we show the world today.

To see American jobs come back to America (Even if it means squeezing big business' ***** until the sing soprano), as opposed to to continuous onslaught of outsourcing to India, Beunos Aires, and the Phillippines, as is the case today.

To return us to a place where we (Americans) can disagree, without spitting venom at each other when it comes to politics around the water cooler- or in this case, the internet...

That's what I hope for.

If Obama can influence those changes, that's what I'd like to see. Not just for me, and not just because he's black.

Ask most black folks, and you'll find most of us aren't looking for a "handout" nor do we feel "entitled" to anything that we haven't worked for. If we feel entitled to anything, we feel entitled to the same opportunity to compete and excel on our own merit as those of other races.

We don't want to clearly see we're being held back 9or given anything) because of our skin, nor do we wish to be limited by the glass ceiling. We don't want to be stereotyped.

That's what we want- that's all we want. Equality. But, make no mistake, we don't expect Obama, who doesn't take office for anohter 75 days, to give this to us.

Who in there right mind would expect oppression, racism, and racist ideology to disappear in 4 years, when it's been ever-present in America for more than 400 years? We may be a passionate people; but we don't believe in magic wands.

Nevertheless, last night was a HUGE step in the right direction. A VERY HUGE step. As one newspaper stated, this was "A giant-leap for mankind". I agree, and I am so proud to have been a part of it.

One of 64 million who made last night happen.

 

I think things will be ok. Sad to say but if whites on the right really paid attention to the issues that affect everyone (not just the ones they like and care about) they would see that most Blacks are conservative.
*They are mostly religious
*They believe in law and order
*They believe in 2nd amendment
*Most don't embrace abortion
*Most support the death penalty
*Most know how to work hard and earn what you get
*They believe in small government or don't want them in their business if things are fair (only reason they allow government intervention)
*A few others I cant think of now but....
They could carry 60% of the black vote if they tried.

For many years Blacks were either left out or ignored when it came to politics so they still have a measure of mistrust. The democrats at least promised for many years even if they didn't deliver. The republicans still ignore Blacks for the most part...I think so they will not **** off the base.
Look at how pissed off the base is now.


Couldn't have said it better. The glass ceiling was smashed into 64 million pieces.

 

All I know is I don't have to pay for gas or my mortgage anymore!!!!!!!!!

 

You must understand, Liberals are progressive thinkers. All they have to do is think about it and your guns will melt and become a swing set for your kids.

Hersh, That was awesome.

My neighbor and I were in tears last night while watching Obama give his speech. It was one of the defining moments in my life. My neighbor likened it to the JFK speech. I am very proud of being an American right now.

I wish I could have said it as well as you did Hersh. I will have to Quote you for a lot of stuff about that. Was great.

 

My kid already has a swing set. Besides I put a coat of anti-liberal polish on all my weapons every six months.
