Terrible way to start the day

Yesterday I got up in the morning to go to class. Walked outside and went to get in my car and this is what my front windshield looked like.

So instead of learning about Strengths of Materials.... I got to spend time with the cops.

I live right down from one of the college bars so it could have been random. But there was no bottle, brick, or anything left at the scene. Makes me think it might have not been random, no other window was broken. Nothing taken from the car (thank god... I had left one of my pistols in the glove box).

well that sucks! are there any cameras watching the lot you park in?

my sisters truck has been keyed in our apartment (the guy who did it is in jail and got to pay for about 10 car repairs) and then her truck also got sprayed with a fire extinguisher, luckily i got all that crap off the paint before it destroyed it. and our apartment still thinks we dont need cameras. also fire alarms been pulled twice at 3 am. 1st time they destroyed the whole system for our building somehow.

No camera's, no lot. Street parking only. Since I've been in Butte I've seen and been victim to more petty crime than I could ever imagine. I personally think this is the crappiest town in America (and I've been to plenty) and worst of all the cops don't care. God should do the rest of the world a favor and pull a repeat performance of Sodom and Gomorrah. I told the cop I was at the point if something happened to me like this again, I'd shoot the person responsible. He just shrugged it off.

I HATE the term "random act" because it usually means somebody will probably get away with it.

Why so much petty crime in Butte?
I thought MT would be mostly crime free?
Sorry for your loss.

yea, its rediculous how careless people are, or just how big of an ******* they are. i dont go screwing up other peoples properties on purpose and if i do, i make it right and pay for it. i have no heard of any problems in auburn, except coming from my one building in our apartment complex. and the apartment is brand new and one of the nicest on campus, but yet we have the most problems.

Well first of all, Butte was an old mining town, which miners are generally a rough and tough bunch. The mine closed and the local economy collapsed (this is years and years ago). Most left, but those that stayed lived a pretty tough life. We all know poverty = higher crime rates, combined with a scrappy group that likes to drink and you start to have problems. Additionally Western Montana is one of the worst places for Meth use, and well.... never trust a drug user.

The collapse of the local economy caused about 1/2 of the buildings to become abandoned. Every time I think I have found the most run down, dilapidated, POS house in Butte, I turn the corner and find one that is even worse. If you've ever read Freakonomics, or studied social economics you know what this does to crime rates.

The sad thing is people are now living in many of these houses. I honestly think about 2/3's of uptown Butte should be condemned and torn down. But that brings us to another point, there is virtually no laws stating what you can build and where. If you want to put a trailer house in the middle of a residential section, go ahead. This is where a good HOA is a necessity.
