possible???

Is it possible to get decent mileage out of a 6.4
I was just out for a cruise on the highway and I found that at 60mph I was getting between 11.5 and 12.1 mpg. Ive had the truck for 3 days and have logged 700miles or so. I was told it'll get better after 20.000 miles. So is there anything i can do to get better mileage. thanks

um... thats terrible!

my 4.6 with 35s get 18 doing 64. and 15 doing 80. wait until your a few thousand miles more.

upgrades i suggest and everyone on the forum will as well:
-Custom tuned Programmer (VMP, Troyer, PHP are top 3 choices)
-Intake
-Exhaust
-E Fans
-Underdrive pulleys

edit: nevermind i thought you had a typo and meant 5.4

do not go by the mpg gauge on the dash unless you reset it while driving on the highway. it takes the average of about the last 500 miles so you will show very poor fuel economy on short highway trips if you normally drive around town.

First of all get used to bad millage, the 6.4 is known for it.
Try thedieselstop.com that forum will be much better for your truck than this one, as everyone there runs a diesel truck. It seems there isn't much activity on this site about the superduty trucks, especially the diesel's.

That is exactly the reason I refuse to buy a new diesel. The fuel consumption is stupid. Might as well buy a V10 and put a blower on it.

It's a nice truck and everything, but 12 mpg on a diesel? That's just lame. Diesel is supposed to get mid 18's to high end 20's.

It's funny they have all this so-called pollution control on... all it's doing is making more pollution. Like duh, hasn't anyone figured that out yet? Guess not.

Ah... Nope. Not unless you do away with your DPF and kitty. Which in turn will also do away with your engine warranty.

Overall how do you like your new super duty. I am in the process of trying to sell my 04 F150 to buy a new supercrew f250.

I love it when im driving down the road you can see the envy from the chevy/dodge boys and all the ford brothers love it. Its a huge beast Ive had it since last friday and I am in love. Its rides better when its loaded.
I towed a 10000 motorhome yesterday and you could barely notice it at all.
The eltronic brake controller is awesome. The nav system is simple and easy to use. I got it tinted yesterday and it looks ever better. I will post pics as soon as I find my usb cable. I beat the fuel problem too if I go down hill everywhere I go I can get up to 99mpg. lol I was driving home today and I hit the reset button and the average mpg went from 10.1 to 18.6 sometimes 19.3 So maybe there is hope. Im not to worried about the fuel because in the words of rick james IM RICH BIAAAAATCH lol Truth is its a beast and worth every penny of fuel.

Glad you like it.

Now... since you follow the words of Rick James... being rich... do you mind passing me some dough this way? I could really use some... I got a nice Paypal account looking for some extra cash from some rich fellow.

Just thought I would update this post. I ended up getting the spartan tuner with all the big tunes. truck gets 22mpg now and runs the 1/4 in 13 flat. not bad for a 10000 =lb truck sitting on 19.5 inch tires. the 488 gears really slow me down. its maxxed out at the 1000 foot mark. will 410 she would easily run 12.5 or better
