Try the 2218 if you really want black. It costs more, and has a very aggressive tread. They are like a mud terrain tire on your feet .The 699 is also black, but it's not electrical hazard rated. I'd prolly stick with the 4420, and let the color grow on you. And, I strongly recommend not attempting to change the color, because the waterproof nature of the leather is dependent on the type of oil that they tan the leather with.

One more thing - Do not buy these boots online! The sizes are very specific, and can vary even from one model to the next. Make sure you spend a lot of time in a Red Wing store, trying on all kinds of different sizes and widths. You might even end up waiting for them to get your size in, and then find out that they have to get you a different size after you try them on. That happened to me, and it sucked, but I'm glad I waited and got the right boot.

I had a feeling that Comcast stopped climbing. That's a bummer. Some people really like it. (most are scared to death!!) 250 is not too heavy at all. It's actually good to have some weight. I'd bet that their construction linemen still climb. At my company (Verizon), it is a job requirement for all technicians to pass pole climbing school, and continue climbing sucessfully for at least their first month. Climbing school was friggin GRUELING! It has a high dropout/failure rate too. Many people have quit their jobs after being hired by Verizon, and then failed climbing school. They go home with no job

Very good advice. Nothing worse than wearing boots that don't fit well over time and the long term problems they cause your feet.

Nothing better than a good pair of well fitting boots.

Cheap helmets and cheap boots can be very expensive.

Screw Redwings! Timberland Pro-Series are the bomb. Lightweight and durable, too. I'll never wear Redwings again.
