Mine was acting up the other night, at like 2 in the morning. I tested it and the test button seemed to work just fine so I plugged it back in. A few minutes later I heard it beeping again. I went and checked the basement to see if there was anything abnormal in the furnace area. Everything seemed fine. Then I did some reading. They expire!

Anyway, long story short, I went and bought a new one today. Canadian Tire has them on sale and the sale ends today. Just thought I'd throw this info out there for those that weren't aware.
CHMC recommends changing them every 5 years unless otherwise specified by the CO detector manufacturer. The new one I bought is good for 7 years.

mine did the same thing last week.... 3:00 in the morning it started chirping. Just 3 beeps then it would stop then 15 minute later it did it again. Very irratating.

 

GREAT information... I wasn't aware that they expired. I need to see if I can dig up the info that came with mine to read about the longevity...

 

A couple of years ago that same detector made a few chirps in the middle of the night again, but after checking everything all seemed to be fine. I plugged it in and didn't worry about it until the other night when it started chirping, after I'd already checked it.
Considering I plugged it in when I moved in, about 8 years ago, I figured I'd do some reading. I think it has passed it's expiry date

 

Mine died 3 months before the 6 year mark. My smoke alarms are acting up also and it just past the 6 year mark in August.

 

I just checked the one we have here at work, and it has a 1 year life span!
It was due last March.

 

Do smoke detectors have an expiry date as well??

Mine are all hard wired to the electrical in my house.
