Thoughts on Comcast or Uverse?
Anyone changed to Uverse on here. I havent heard much yet. Do you still get the regular channels like NBC and stuff. I remember when you could not get those channels with the old satelite systems.
Any other channels you dont get compared to Comcast.
What about the dreaded "sunspots".?
How is the On demand programming?
How is the basic 1.5 MPS internet package for gaming with an XBOX 360 or downloading music.

comcast effing sucked over here... crappiest service I've ever had. Internet was fast--when they weren't regulating it down to a drip... my ondemand worked 50% of the time... whenever they came out-even if it was their fault that equipment or service interrupted, i was charged for the tech.

One year later, does anyone have any serious input on the whole cable vs. satellite vs. Uverse? I am about to move and want to know if I should be looking into something different. I have Directv right now and like it. I've had cable and it's okay, but would really like to hear about people's experience with Uverse.
I feel so special. My first old post rebirth. LOL Just kidding
I ended up staying with Comcast. The prices and packaging got better because of the competition. They also decided to keep the NFL network and everyone gets a free login for ESPN360. My neighbors who have Uverse are happy though. Their initial install took about 8 hours and tech support had to come out for repairs the first few months. But everything seemed to calm down for them.

Uverse comes in over fiber optic and copper, so it is not subject to atmospheric problems like satellite.
I wish AT&T would get off their butts and offer Uverse here - the local cable company sucks big time. I wish Comcast would come in and clean house here! Maybe Uverse may become a reality here, AT&T finally brought in 3G wireless this year.

We've had Uverse at the house since Feb., switched from Comcast - analog cable and internet. Have the HD package, no premium channels. Unfortunately, I' M TAD in Orlando since March. Wife & kids love it. Lots of channels, very clear, no real problems. Can record up to 4 channels at once, from any of 4 TVs, and watch anything anywhere. When I'm home I watch mostly Military, Discovery & Science channels. You get all the national nets in both digital and HD. The have two free movie type channels as part of the package.
The local news broadcasts are scary in HD, don't need to see their zits & pores & stray hairs sticking out.
We have the basic speed internet, no gaming at our house. It is slower than what we had with Comcast (which, I think was the second lowest of the four speeds offered.)

We signed up for uverse phone and internet...I like my DirectTV too much to get rid of it. We have had absolutely zero problems and the tech got everything installed and working in about 4 hours. DirectTV shows caller ID when someone calls so we don't even have to get up to screen calls. We chose uverse because comcast sucks around here, my neighbor has it and hates it.
True, that is when you do have internet at all.......Otherwise they are FAIL

After bringing this thread back up and mulling it over, I decided to look at the AT&T website. I submitted my address to see if they had Uverse in my area and it looks like it is not even available where I am going to be living. Oh well, looks like I'll be sticking with Directv or switching back to Comcast. Thanks guys for the opinions.
Uverse...what a joke. I have this craptacular service. Dont try to watch a HD channel if your recording HD...thats a no go. I suposidly got the "largest Hard Drive EVA" in a DVR box but it cant hold any where near as much as the DirecTV DVR box I had. After about 40 hours of recorded stuff it started deleting programs. Youll set the DVR to record 30 mins past show time and it dosnt...causing you to miss things that may run late. It took them about a month and 3 diffrent boxes to get my service actually up and running properly. Oh the whole record 4 things at once...sure as long as it isnt HD. The picture quality is par with all the other services and you do get local channels. As far as TV on Demand...ehhh..any new movie is going to cost at least $4 or $6 if you want the HD version. I have no complaints about the internet. Customer service has always been extremely nice and very polite. None of this talking to some one in Ahbie Gobie who has suck broken english your not even sure if it is english. All and all for us we should have just stuck with Direct TV, but heard all the hype about Uverse and switched when we moved. It's really nothing more than cable through AT&T.
Did I mention I was supose to get a $200 rebate that I never recieved and got basically a "ohhh, well sorry about that" after go round and round with them.

Problem is Uverse cannot support the bandwidth over long distances. They are running Fiber to the curb(FTTC) which is good, but AT&T decided to transmitting over a twisted pair line from the fiber termination to the house.
That's one main reason they can only have a certain amount of HD channels being viewed in the house at once and that also limits how fast your internet can be.
Cable uses the same concept but they use coax rather than twisted pair to transmit the signals. Coax can handle has more bandwidth capability than twisted pair and over a much longer distance.
That would be totally acceptable to me as long as it DOES have the capability to record HD while watching another HD. I'm only one person, and I only have 2 TV's - and the one in the bedroom is an old standard def CRT.
