Cabo San Lucas

Has anyone here ever taken a vacation to Cabo San Lucas mexico?

Where did you stay?

Did you like it?

What did you do while you were there?

What time of year (month) did you go and how was the weather?

Ocean Temperature?

Did you scuba dive? And recommendations on the Scuba Diving?

Any and ALL information is much appreciated.

Thank you.

I have been to Cabo as a cruise ship passenger in April, 2007.
We missed a chance to go Snorkeling because our ship could not unload passengers for the first couple of hours due to rough ocean conditions. They would not let the Water Taxis (tenders) come near the ship.
Do some online research. Quite a few of the Charter Boats are operated by Americans. No problem getting help in English. They do a lot of sportfishing in Cabo. I am guessing that Scuba is also pretty common.
You probably need a passport by now to travel this far into Mexico.
Good luck.

A couple of our (wife and I) friends went there but they disappeared and they haven't been heard from since.

Funny you should ask that question, I have been looking online this afternoon at info as well, I just never thought to post it here.....forgive me. I am going Mid October and we have a chartered two fishing boats. I am staying at some RIU Resort. There seems to be plenty of diving, caves, waterfalls, night diving etc. You will need a passport and a tourist card ( i think ) if staying more than 72 hrs. I would like some info on whether or not to exchange currency or just rely in c/c? Sorry i dont mean to hijack your thread

Yep, went last summer. They sent the top 10 sales reps in our company for an all expenses paid trip down there for a week. It's beautiful down there, but also expensive.

Our trip (me and the wife) cost about $15K together. I don't think the trip was worth that, just glad I didn't pay it.

We stayed at the "One and Only Palmilla" - http://www.oneandonlyresorts.com/flash.html It is pretty upscale (for Mexico), the basic room goes for about $600-$800 a night. But, the rooms are really big and you have a walkout balcony that is right on the ocean.

We went 4 wheelin through one of the local Tour Guide places (set up through work), and took a cruise also for a day (set up through work). You had the ability to snorkel but I had been snorkeling a bunch of times in the past, so I decided to stay aboard and drink.

As far as the scenary goes, one of the best places I've ever been for site seeing. Our vacation was somewhat structured because it was a work function technically, but it was a great trip. I think you'll like it alot.

As the others mentioned, haggle everything. You can negotiate with shops at the mall (which is about a $20 cab ride from most of the popular hotels, which I also haggled). Most of your charter boat tours are right by the mall area also, and there's a ton of them.

You will definately need a passport as well. Not sure how helpful this was, but I think you'll enjoy your time down there. If I had the choice, I would go again only on our own, not with the other work people. But a free trip none the less, and a great vacation spot to boot...

It's been a long time (17 years), but I've been there. We flew Alaskan Airlines and stayed at one of the nicest places I've ever been for next to nothing. We went in January, when the rates were low, but the weather was cloudy most of the time, and it rained once or twice. I don't know if they still do it or not, but back then the second you stepped off the plane there were people offering you stuff if you'd come listen to a sales pitch for a time share.

Money is not really an issue. When I vacation, I like to have a good time.

I got a deal through a family member using RCI timeshare stuff. There are DOZENS of resorts to choose from.

My hotel stay will be paid for.

And haggleing... not a problem. I haggle everything I can in America.

Thanks for all your info.

Keep it coming.

RIU resort just down from the los cabos formation. Saw them filming rock of love in the bay. I had a blast. Haggle with the mexicans, keep your head up and dont walk to far out of the main areas by yourself and you will be fine. Have fun!

Awesome.

We've got it narrowed down to two resorts... both around the marina.

My only concern now is water temperature.

What about Early May? What do you think the water temps will be?

One word of advice...dont carry more then 20-50 cash on you unless you have to.

Another thing ive noticed from my spring break trips to Rocky Point...be prepared to laugh at the mexicans that think they are high class drinking bud light. remember, its an import down there. I was spending a buck on sol's and absolutely loving it, they were spending close to 3 on BL and thought they were the chit. It was hilarious

Just to put it out there, if you are looking for good diving Bonaire is great. I myself prefer the Caribbean side of Mexico. Riviera Maya, Akumal and Tulum are all my favorites. Water temps in the Caribbean are warm all year long, plenty to do and a whole lot cheaper than Cabo..

I've been to the Carribean.

Bonaire was actually in the top 3 places we considered going.

but I know a couple of people that JUST came back from Cabo Sanlucas and I'd like to see it myself.
