He called me about 4 hours later and said that is was almost done but there were a few service items that I should have taken care of. He starts off by telling me I need new brake pads, rotors turned and new brake fluid. I told him thanks but either I will do it myself or have a brake shop do them. He then tells me that I need to replace two nuts. Huh? I asked him what he was talking about. He paused and he said that he thought it meant lug nuts. Again, huh? He then calls another guy on his other phone and then tells me that there are two nuts that I have to replace when I replace the pads.

The second thing he wanted me to do was to flush the transmission (I have 40k miles). He told me that it looks like it has never been changed. I told him that I had it flushed and replaced 3000 miles ago. He said maybe it was some residual left over. Huh?

The last item was the air filter. I have a K&N with the sticker alerting them to not even open it up. He said it needs to be replaced. I told him that I just cleaned it 1 month ago and to please tell the guys to read. Do not open up my air filter. I can bet that they did not even look at it. It is just a standard item.

Now I know why I never go to the dealer for anything other than recalls and warranty issues. I will stick with my local guy to work on my truck.
Hey Blue...
I guess you know by now that you should STAY AWAY from Greenway.....(cool, that rhymed!) I bought my Ranger from them back when they were Mcinerney and got royally taken. When I got my F150 it came with a chrome grill and I changed it to the PTM. I took it to Greenway to see how much they'd charge to paint it and the shop guy told me that his 'friend' could paint it for me for cheaper....So I ask how cheap, he calls his friend and tells me $135. So I go to Don Reid where I bought the truck and the shop price to paint it was $105! And that was with a full warranty! The body shop guy at DR said that they get a lot of work from Greenway because of how horrible that place is.

The only reason I took it there was because I bought it there and they ahve a large service department. I actually bought my truck from Greenway and it was a great experience. I only dealt with the internet sales group, though. I had previously bought all of my Fords from Don Reid but I had problems with them dealing with my wife's old Ford Contour.

I haven't been to my dealer in like 9 months, maybe more... but that was because the A/C compressor needed to be swapped out. They also tried convincing me I should bring it to them. I said, "no".

I've never had a problem doing regular maintainance on vehicles... there is nothing special or secretive about them.

Needless to say, I'm never going back there.

You are absolutely right, and it took a Blackstone Labs oil analysis to prove what I suspected all along.

Maybe cold air intake systems seal better, but the OEM drop-in K&Ns on both my F150 and Jeep were crap, and I will never use an OEM drop-in K&N ever again. The K&N allowed as much dirt into my engine at 3,000 miles than a paper element would have in 10,000 miles of driving!

I got concerned after my oil started getting really dark and grimey looking after just 2,500 miles of driving, while it used to look like honey at 5,000 miles before I changed the filter. I also found dust and dirt particles in the intake tube past the air filter.

Once I went back to the paper element on both vehicles, everything returned back to normal.

I got roped by the dealer a little while back... truck had to go in for a stuck valve which was under warranty. Got a call saying my brakes were metal on metal. Which they were pretty bad. Just had them replaced them to save me the headache.
