radar: which Escort

in the next few months gonna be doin a couple 1500 mile round trip runs to georgia and back for training for a new job im gonna be starting. just want your opinions on the escorts. im either gonna get a 8500 X50 or the 9500i. i really like the 9500i for the gps and the ability to learn speed traps and false alarms. but i just dont know if its worth the extra 150 bucks? i highly doubt the 8500 x50 will be terrible with false alarms. and i know speed traps in my head so... id rather safe 150 bucks since all i would be paying for would be the gps IMO. i can live with out that. and the false alerts have gotta be way better than this POS cobra i have. its junk. so what do you guys think.

I was in the market a while back for a new RD; currently using a Bel 960 that I've used for about 8 years. It's never failed me and works great, but I thought I'd like to upgrade. I researched the new Passport 9500i and was not impressed. Not sure if they worked out the bugs with that GPS part, but it didn't seem to work as advertised. Can't remember the site, but there is a forum for RD's. You could find it pretty easily and there is some good info on there. I'd save the 150 bucks personally.

I drive my car like I stole it... the old Bel 960 has saved me many a time. Don't buy into the hype of newer is better.

I have an Escort 8500 X50 and love it! I got the blue LED one. It has saved me countless of times. It is well worth the money.

I'll be upgrading to a Escort 8500 or the V1 once I get a supercharger.

My only advice is to get one you like. If you go with Bel, Escort, or Valentine they are all good detectors. Some give more alerts than others... some are way more annoying than others (believe it or not you get used to the beeping). Find one that suits your specific needs.

Mine should be outdated, but it works for me. I've used it in my integra powered civic with a supercharger, integra Type R, Honda S2000, Infinity G35, and now my Mitsu Evolution.... lets just say I'VE SPED!!!

Had it on a trip from Shreveport to Seattle and back that spanned 4 weeks and not one ticket. It's saved me multiple times. Point is even an older detector works if you use it and know the settings.
