1979 I had one of those. first year of the square head lights. Mine was a short box flair side. nice little truck.

Actually they started in 1978.

 

Thanks! '79 was first year across the board for square headlights. '78 Rangers, Ranger XLT, and Lariats had square too.

What's causing it to get only 5 mpg?

I'd sure hate to have to use the dually for its intended purpose and tow something

Yeeehaw I filled up at lunch tonight and got 7mpg. Maybe I should stop going wide open throttle after every stop...

I love that truck... to bad it wasn't stick... but still, what a nice find!

I've been in a truck like that when I was a kid.

They sure don't build'em like they used to... eh? Gotta love the chrome, manual everything... nice bumpy ride... and steering that takes 2 people to drive.

 

Sweet truck! It looks in really good shape for how old it is. We had a 78' in the family as our farm truck "Old Blue"... that thing was a beast. I'd love to be able to find a 79' and restore it one day.

 

True that, 'cept for the steering. Effortless in this truck, and prolly even a little better than my '02. Got a good pump in an old truck for once.
