"Ford adding blind-spot mirror to Edge this fall"

IMO this will only make people more lazy when they change lanes. Nothing will replace looking over your should to see of a car is there or not.

i dont think its that bad of an idea. there are too many wrecks from people not looking over their shoulders. having that mirror in their peripheral vision might help them notice a car coming up. there are some pretty bad drivers out there. granted, some cars have some pretty horrible blind spots, so a blind spot mirror might be nice.

Really?... Blind spot mirrors are a bad thing?

It's far more dangerous to whip you head around to look behind you than keeping the road in your field of vision.

Im not saying they are a bad idea. i am saying that nothing will replace looking over your shoulder...suppose you go from a car w/ a BS mirror to a car w/o one. We are driven by habits and looking over your shoulder is a good habit you should never loose.

My 1998 F150 has blind spot mirrors.

They cost $3.99 at the autoparts store and stick on with 3m tape. I wonder what Ford will charge for this high tech feature.

They do help.

Have you driven the edge? Even with looking over the shoulder there is still a pretty good size area that you can not see unless you stick your head out the window The edge's design just doesn't have a good field of view.

I use spot mirrors in the truck for the simple fact looking over the shoulder I could easily miss a small car such as a Mita.

alot of the times there would be no blind spot if the mirror was aimed correctly

you should not be able to see the lane you are in behind you on the side mirrors, then aim them so that when a short car is next to you you can barely see the nose of the car in your peripheral and the rear of the car in the mirror

I dont have to look over my shoulder. I aim my mirrors slightly out and if lean into the mirror I am looking at I can even see more. We got some bigass mirrors on our trucks.

My side mirrors are lined up so that once I do not see them in my rear-view mirror I see them in the side mirrors.

Here is a hint: you should not be able to see any of your vehicle in your side mirrors. What good does that do you?

My wifes 2001 cougar has some HORRIBLE blind spots!

I always glance over my shoulder before I merge and good thing to. Even after really checking out the mirror good I catch a car in the blind spot at the last min.
