Wireless Network Help

I have a new HP laptop running Vista Home Premium. I also have a desktop running XP. I have a Motorola Cable Modem with built in wireless access point. I can connect to the internet wirelessly just fine. The problem I am having is file sharing. Neither computer will see each other. I've tried everything and can't figure it out. I have it at work and I can't connect wirelessly to our computers here either. I can plug directly into a switch and have access to every computer on the network, just not while using the wireless.

I can turn all firewalls off, disable passwords, everything. Nothing works.

Any suggestions?

The reason that you probably can't connect at work is that the wireless network at work is probably secure. Can you at least see the name of the network.

At home I think that you should check your computer name and workgroup on both computer and write them down and try everything again. What are you trying to share on the computer? (desktop, C:\, printers, etc.)

I have file sharing turned on. No passwords, firewalls turned off. Still nothing.

We set up a temp wireless network here at work, it's not secure just to try it this morning. I can see the wireless router, but thats it. At home I have both networks named MSHOME. I'm trying to share a printer and music folder.

if you have the other computer or drives and folders set up to be shared on the network, find out the name of the computer. if its named "johns compaq" in windows explorer in the address bar type "//johns compaq and see if it shows up.

Yeah, I'm typing the correct slashes. I got to checking other computers in the office. The other Vista machines can see and access my shared folders. The machines running XP cannot see my computer running but they can see the other office computers with Vista. I still cannot see Vista or XP machines.

I take that back. Only 1 computer which happens to be running Vista can access my laptop. None of the other computers can.

Also the one computer that can access my laptop shows up on my network map. But I still can't access it.
