Mechanically Declined Habibi Has a Question
The battery I have in my travel trailer is a Optima Yellow Top.
Every fall when I winterize the trailer, I remove the battery and bring it into the basement for the winter.
Last fall I forgot, and it's dead now.
Did I damage it by leaving it out all winter, or if I hook it up to the charger will it be ok again?
We're heading out east in a couple of weeks and I'm just getting everything ready.
Thanks

Run it up to your autoparts store, they'll tell ya for free. I agree, 50/50 though. I always disconnect the positive cable before I store anything with a battery in it for the winter (Quad, riding lawnmower, pop-up, etc..)
Hey Habibi, how's it going, ay?
give your battery a full charge, then take it to your local battery store and get it load-tested. That will tell you one way or the other...

I do believe the optimas are more tolerant of being discharged. Your probably ok. Hint for you.. and all of us who don't drive our truck as much as we used to... Get a battery tender. Keeps the battery at peak charge and won't over charge. Never have a bad battery again from sitting.

Habibi, Seems like all the bases have been covered:
1. Warranty
2. Recharge, then test
Bottom line: If it's older than three or four years, buy yourself a new one and travel with confidence.
Or would you rather hear (in a condescending female voice), "I told you to get a new battery, but NOOOOOO! you said it would be fine. Good thing I brought this little battery powered make up mirror or we'd be sitting here in the dark until the parts house opens. yada yada yada......"

go and get a good deep cycle charger with battery tender. it should tell you the condition of the battery while it's charging. i think an optima should be able to come back after something like that.
hell, i left my battery in my jet ski over the winter. i just unplugged the NEGATIVE terminal and when the season rolled around i hooked it back up and the jet ski fired up just fine.

Thanks everyone.
I put the charger on the dead battery the night before we left, put it on trickle charge, and now everything is just like new.
Guess I got lucky this time, I won't make the same mistake again.
The weather has been quite wet this trip, hopefully it clears up soon.
My biggest problem is keeping enough ice in the cooler.
Ciao babies!

Here's a couple pics of the campsite from the new Canon G9:
