On the contrary, Vista has been unofficially recognized as a dismal failure at Microsoft. They're already working on Windows 7 (Vista is sort of like Ver 6), planning on releasing somewhere around the 2009-10 time frame. They are going to try and learn from their Vista mistakes by releasing some beta code to the hardware manufacturers (driver programmers)earlier, and having an exceptionally smaller and simpler kernel... using less resources, being smaller, and lighter.

There was an interesting article on it in the August issue of PC Mag.

Vista will be the same as Windows ME.(it sucked so bad, that everyone just waited for XP to come out to upgrade from 98) It was a failure, and they will come out with a replacement very soon, so you can just jump from XP to whatever they call windows 7.

No software companies will not drop support for XP anytime soon. Why, first companies that buy operating systems are not going whole hog for Vista. In fact corporations, unlike us can still buy XP from MS. Many are going to bypass Vista. Also as long as MS supports XP, other companies will also. Look at Win 98. Full support was dropped by MS in 2002, with extended support being dropped in 2006. It has only been in the last 1-2 years that other software companies have dropped support of their products for 98. Many products still support Win 2000, which has been around a longer than XP.

Ahhhh I don't know what to do now. Basically this is what I have to do to get XP anyways is buy a laptop with Vista Business and I can downgrade to XP from there. Should I go ahead and buy that and downgrade or just keep vista. Will I be able to upgrade to the new Windows 7 whenever it comes out? I have no cluee what to do now. haha

If you get the XP downgrade, it does not mean you have to use it. You can try Vista and if you decide you do not like it, you can downgrade. If you like Vista, then the only thing you are out is if they charge you for the downgrade. As far as upgrading to Windows 7 whenever it comes out, although I would not do it right at the start, you will be able to upgrade from whatever operating system you are using.
When Vista first came out, I thought about going to it. Fortunately I decided to wait and see how things went. Something I usually don't do. At this point there is nothing I have seen yet to make me want to upgrade to Vista. When everyone said wait until SP1 comes out, I waited and now I see many people having trouble even installing the update. I will continue to wait.
